2. Identity is weird.

I've seen some You Tube video put out by people who are supposedly American Indian going on rants about the "white man". These are invariably people traveling under almost cartoonish names which are invariably not their birth names. And yet, they are sincere; they sincerely think of themselves as American Indian even if no one including an anthropologist with an MD would identify them as such.
