and it says "that's why we're waiting..."

in other words 'if we are aware that TV lies, and that a feeling of powerlessness are things to be overcome then we have a chance to make a difference." He says 'hey we're not apathetic but a significant number of us don't believe we can make a difference.' It is done in a style with strong elements of a gospel/spiritual and I think Mayer's lyrics play in that tradition. A mix of yearning for something better, a feeling of frustrated powerlessness but also an enduring hope. In ways it is a secular take on "we shall overcome someday."

And I like it - I think defining the problem and getting people focused on it is the first significant step toward the solution.
