It would have to catch on as a 'universal religion' the way Christianity did, travel far and wide, become the state religion of numerous political entities and serve as a foundation for a broad band of world culture. If it did all of those things, people 1000 years from now probably would think of it as more legitimate. That's my point. Christianity (and other religions too) have been shaped by a long period of doctrinal debate and cultural interactions. Scientology sprang from the mind of a hustler not too long ago and is called a 'church' in no small part for tax reasons.
