Just back from a Labor Day dinner, and I am so upset,, and annoyed. There were 9 adults there. Here is the breakdown on the people, and their status;
Myself, 50 yr. old, Ind.--Obama My best friend; 42, Ind.--Obama Her boyfriend; 42, R/I?----?? Not sure. His mom; 50-something, ??--Obama Her friend from Michigan; 50-something, single woman, R--McAsshat My friend's uncle; 72,(today--you'd never know it!!)R--Obama His son; 40-something, Dem.--Obama Neighborhood couple; 45-50 STAUNCH republicans!!--McAsshat
Now, after dinner, we were sitting around, watching the TV about the hurricane, and the forcaster was talking about the waves rolling off of Africa, so the man from the couple says; "I don't like anything coming from Africa". I knew right there that he was not going to vote for Obama, and that he meant it in a racist way.
I was showing--I'll call them Uncle and Cuz, boyfriendas mom, and my friend, the videos of Jon Stweart, and Stephen Colbert, on Palin. We were rolling, and there was a dead silence from the couple and that single woman.
A while later the men went outside and I was left with the women, so I took the opening. I said that I had become convinced that Obama was the best thing for our country, and that I thought McAss was bat-shit crazy, and that I did not want another 4 years of him. The 2 women started DEFENDING Bush, and McAsshat, to the point that I thought they were not even on the same planet as I am.
One of them actually said that THIS economy is Bill CLINTON'S fault!!! Can you believe that?!? They also said that they think that Obama is going to give "special treatment" to blacks. I said, I disagree, because all week long at the convention, all you heard was; work hard, work hard, work hard...and said that I don't think anyone is going to get a handout. I also said that they needed to keep in mind that Obama was 1/2 white, to which they replied that he denounced that and chose to consider himself a black man. They then went on to bring up the Rev. Wright thing. They said that he did not have the qualifications to be prez!?! Like Bush ever did?!?
I finally had to give up, because they were relentless, and the single woman said she would think of me on election night. I told her that she needed to be thinking about HER choice on election night, as it could have very profound consequences.
I am posting this here, but I am thinking there is still a lor more work to do and people to talk to before this election, because this is the kind of thing that may just ruin any chance for us being able to get this country back on track.
If you look at the stat; 5 for Obama, and 4 for McAsshat, and 1 undecided, it really shows the reason Obama is not pulling way out in front of McAsshat.
I can't believe people would just stand behind THEIR party, when it has been such an epic failure.
I am totally dejected.
