we'd make coffee at six, have some dinner and head out to the living room by seven o'clock with our coffee cups in hand, settle in and turn on keith.

after his show we would turn on "whatever"--until rachel came onto the scene. then we'd stay tuned and watch her.

on some nights when i worked late she would watch keith and when i got home she'd say to me: "you have to watch keith tonight" and then she'd tell me what was on his show. so i'd watch it on the rerun and my mom would still be up and in the living room and she'd watch it all over again with me.

every night. monday through friday. all the time. for years.
it was something we both looked forward to.
it was one of the few things my mother looked forward to.

my mom was older--she never went out. this show was an important part of her life.

my mom passed in the autumn of 2009

i want to thank keith for giving us this wonderful show--for being so open-minded--a trait my mom highly valued. and i want to thank him for sharing his humor, thoughtfulness, sarcasm, subtleties, and bold, meaningful commentaries that helped to make the final years of her life a little more enjoyable and interesting.

it was great.
it really was.
