29. When I TA'ed a lifetime ago (late 80s), 25% of the entering first-year
class pre-declared as business majors. Before setting foot in a single college class, mind you. Today, 20 years later, the streets are littered with the walking carcasses of those who took on massive student loan debts to major in business only to graduate into an economy with no jobs.

I'd like to say the joke is on those grads for placing careerism above things like critical thinking or something as quaint as a well-rounded education. But I think the real culprits are the institutions of higher education who became, what, something like high-priced consorts for big business.

You will never, repeat NEVER, hear me counsel anyone to enter higher education for a business degree. Ugh. Instead, I counsel people to enter higher education to get an education, an asset that will last them for life.
