An influential
Republican lawmaker is raising questions about federal efforts to guarantee the U.S. supply of flu vaccine.
Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, said he
wants to know exactly when the Bush administration learned about problems with a vaccine manufacturer in Great Britain. He also mentioned what seem to be "flaws" in federal abilities to deal with foreign firms who send drugs to the United States.
Barton, who is chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, raised the matter in a letter sent to the Food and Drug Administration and Department of Health and Human Services. The bipartisan request was also signed by Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich., the committee's senior Democrat.
