4 arrested in anti-war protest near campus

The four were among up to 75 people who gathered at University Square Mall Thursday afternoon in an impromptu protest that also drew about 20 officers.

"We were mostly protesting that our peers are being sent off to get killed in a dumb war," said John Peck of the General Defense Office, which offers educational and legal support for demonstrators. The group arranged for a couple of legal observers to attend the protest....

20 officers for 75 people? Wow, I knew the crime rate was low in madison, but you would think they would have better things to do.

The Viet-Nam Anti-War movement started there. the cops in that town are cretins. a lot are ignorant 80 IQ farm boys that like to kick ass on anyone who is different.

As a fellow cheesehead I am wondering

1. What is your definition of a cretin?

2. How many is a lot, and how could I verify their origins are farms and their IQ's are 80?

3. Can you provide a published source that indicates their willingness to "kick ass on anyone who is different."

My experience is that Madison police are pretty typical of law enforcement in midwestern cities with major universities and populations above 250K. Certainly the police are more conservative than the student/professional population, but they aren't as a rule further out of the mainstream than the troopers in small towns in the GB area like Little Chute.

Then get back to me. Check out the cops in the movie kicking the shit out of the people in Miffland.

talk. It was about 4th and Pine. A bunch of nice non-violent people talking. People concerned with our dying children in the Bush Family Lie of Iraq. People concerned about our economy and our country. Then I walk by on Sunday and religious group was have a talk/protest in the exact same spot but there was NOT a police to be seen for blocks.

I lived in Turkey as an AF Medic for almost 2 years. I loved the Turkish people: friendly, humble (not proud), devoted to family . . . please know the US protestors are not alone!

ISTANBUL, November 19 (IslamOnline.net) Members of the Turkish education syndicates had taken to the streets Wednesday, heading to the US embassy in Ankara to protest the “US brutal practices against the Iraqi people”.

The protestors laid wreathes of flowers shrouded with black tapes before the embassy walls.

Banners condemning the US practices were also waved by the demonstrators, describing US President George. W. Bush as “blood sucker”, according to IslamOnline.net Correspondent.

The demonstrators further called for halting the US military operations in Iraq and ending occupation of the oil-rich country.
