Troops Invade Baghdad Mosque
Troops Invade Baghdad Mosque
Two Killed in Move Against Sunni Site

By Karl Vick and Khalid Saffar
Washington Post Foreign Service
Saturday, November 20, 2004; Page A01

BAGHDAD, Nov. 19 -- Iraqi troops backed by U.S. soldiers raided the most revered Sunni mosque in Baghdad, setting off stun grenades, arresting dozens and leaving at least two people dead, according to witnesses and a hospital official.

The raid on the Abu Hanifa mosque just after Friday prayers was the latest in a series of moves targeting clerics who support the insurgency, which continues to churn violently in the sections of Iraq dominated by the country's minority Sunni Muslim population.

Spokesmen for Iraq's interim government, which must approve major military operations in the country, tried in recent days to prepare the way for the wave of arrests by citing Iraqi law that equates support for insurgency with the actions themselves. But popular outrage was apparent in the wake of the raid on Abu Hanifa, the burial place of a medieval scholar who founded one of the faith's most prominent schools of law.

"In the more than 55 years I have been praying at this mosque, it was hit twice," said Abu Numan, 65. "The first was in April 2003 when the Americans entered Baghdad, and the second was today, again at the hands of the Americans and the National Guard.

"Why? This is a holy place and the tomb of one of Islam's most revered figures. There should be some sanctity and respect for our shrines. This is unacceptable."

Rest at...

4. The parallels to the US religious support for bushie are stunning
There is speculations that the Rove machine got the mailing lists for churches sympathetic to bush's brand of fundamentalism -- and that the Sunday before the Prez election apparently the bush supporting ministers & priests gave sermons supporting bush.

Bush is now going after the fundamentalists Islamic clerics because he understands how this stuff works -- and he being the leader of Crusades II will do whatever it takes to beat the crap out of the Islamic fundamentalist. It is in his best interest to knock down Islamic fundamentalism -- WHILE at the same time building the fundamentalists (HIS base) up in the US.

If the fundamentalists do get more of an upper hand in the US -- the results will be as bloody as what happened in Falluja -- but it won't be the US Army -- rather the followers of Christian Reconstructionists.

We can probably expect more attacks on Mosques -- Suppression of dissent that will probably out do anything that Saddam ever attempted.

It's all part of "spending capital". Which apparently is a euphemism for KILLING A WHOLE SHITLOAD OF INNOCENT PEOPLE LIKE THOUSANDS WEEKLY!!!!!

100,000 Dead bodies time 6 quarts of blood= 150,000 gallons of human blood could fill 15 10,000 gallon swimming pools!!!

How about a resort in Hell with facilities for all the enablers for these atrocities for them to swim in for all enternity?

6. Listening to Mike Webb show and the dumb ass GOPigs
are defending the killing -- they still don't get it.

They were lied to many times over for the reason for the Invasion -- and they still defend bushie. Some of these idiots almost sound sane -- almost.

Ann da Man Colter said at the very beginning of the bush administration -- paraphrasing -- kill the leaders, kill them until they convert to Christianity. And she seems to be speaking for the neocons . . .

There is going to be a lot more killing and troop build up in Iraq and elsewhere -- I wonder when the public is going to notice. The US media sure as hell isn't going to report what is really happening in Iraq.

There is practically no reporting on the ongoing war in Afghanistan. I expect that the same will happen with Iraq -- the media and bushie will lose interest -- and the US military will keep killing civilians. Then bushie will move on to the next war.

He has a very long history of having a short attention span.

7. Let's get the lede correct; US TROOPS TERRORIZE PEOPLE AT PRAYER
Terrorizing those who are praying…

“They have shot and killed at least 4 of the people while they were praying, and at least 20 are wounded now! I cannot believe this! I can’t let them see me calling you. I am on my stomach now and they have our guns on everyone, there are at least 1,500 people inside the mosque and it is sealed. We are on our bellies and in a very bad situation.”

“People were praying and the Americans invaded the mosque,” Abdulla Ra'ad Aziz said, who had been released along with his wife and children. “Why are they killing people for praying? After the forces entered they went to the back doors and we heard so many bullets of the guns. There were wounded and dead, I saw them myself.”

Some of the people who had been at prayer were ordered by soldiers to carry the dead and wounded out of the mosque.

A doctor with the Iraqi Red Crescent confirmed four dead and nine wounded worshippers. Pieces of brain were splattered on one of the walls inside the mosque while large blood stains covered carpets in several places.
