Fraud allegations focus of 9th recount

WIRE and STAFF REPORTS

Allegations of voter fraud in Monroe County will be a key point in the recount of Republican Mike Sodrel’s apparent victory over Rep. Baron Hill of Seymour in the Ninth Congressional District.

Sodrel’s campaign responded to the request of Democrats for a recount in the district by claiming a “substantial number” of ineligible voters may have cast ballots in Monroe County, which Hill won by some 7,000 votes.

State officials were to begin a prerecount inspection of the impounded county election materials today in Bloomington.

The recount, including hand-counting of many ballots, is scheduled to start in about two weeks, election officia...

2. This is misleading
You should have included the salient issue in Sodrel requesting the recount...his request comes on the heels of voting machines messing up the ballots cast for democrats in another county when voters went straight ticket.

those votes went to the libertarian party instead.

Sodrel's claim is based upon the Republicans sending out cards to people all across Monroe county before the election to try to determine whether or not people who were registered in a particular district were still there.

Some of those postcards were returned undelivered.

This is in a town with 35k college students, many of whom change their residences...which does not in any way necessarily have anything to do with actual voting.

But the chief reason for doing this, it would seem to me, is to be able to have a counter action to the recount currently underway.

Ballots are locked and sealed in courthouses in various counties across the district, until all can be re-counted, based upon the computer errors that took votes from Sodrel's opponent and gave them to another candidate.

as an aside, talkingpointsmemo has a link to people who received money from Tom DeLay's PAC. Sodrel received 10k to help him defeat the incumbent, Baron Hill.

Tom's PAC is part of the reason he was spanked by the House Ethics Committee.

3. Delay - take your Texas smirk and go home
But, unfortunately, his intrusive style of politics is welcomed by many Hoosiers, 'cause he assures us if we just vote 'publican those two gay IU students wont be able to get hitched. Glory Be!
