our own recent "election". Wait until you get to Bush's quote about "tarnished elections". If Yuschenko wins, this is good news for Ukrainians.

1. Maria, if you are reading this, remember "Catcher in the Rye??...
From Vermont, I hope this news is pleasing to you! The "white wine tarragon vinegar"!

Sorry guys, just a personal "heart throb" on my part.

:-)

2. I don't see exactly why
it will be good news for Ukrainians. If the new leader alienates Russia, Moscow can make it a living hell for Ukrainians in a number of ways.

Also, does being "pro-Western" mean the new guy will send more troops to Iraq? That wouldn't be good news to me either if I were a Ukrainian.

4. Ukraine needs to turn to the West (Europe)
not back to the Russians which have time and again screwed them. Look at which way democracy is headed in Russia compared to E. Europe. They share borders with more European countries. Yuschenko at least has some small chance to bring much needed reforms, though it certainly won't be easy, far more difficult than the situation we face here. Yuschenko is against sending Ukrainian troops to Iraq, btw. - K
