McCain Not Ruling Out Run for President
WASHINGTON - Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said Sunday he is not ruling out a run for the 2008 presidential nomination, but that he is not a candidate now. A decision to run, if one should come, would not be made for at least two years, said McCain, speaking only a few weeks after the 2004 campaign ended with President Bush winning a second term.

"Look, I'm not running for president," McCain told NBC's "Meet the Press," and added: "I do not foreclose the option."
...
"There will be plenty of time to consider whether to run for president again, but certainly I don't think it's in any way appropriate for me to speculate on that at this time," McCain said on NBC.

He was asked when that time might come.
...
"You know, the president hasn't even been inaugurated yet. Isn't it a little unseemly for any of us to start on that path again?"

you handed your mighty sword to * on a tattered silver platter, and he's already tossed it over his shoulder.

do you hope to win back true conservatives? Scouting for Dean democrats?

sheesh. where were you when it counted this year, John. You watched them cut JK into little chunks and raost him over the bonfire of lies, and all you would do is whimper it isn't right, then go to9 make campaign commercials for *.

You and Spector deserve to be marginalized. Your party is gone, and it ain't coming back in your generation.

For health reasons of course. Then McCain steps into his shoes, to of course run in 2008. Thats what the big hugs were about.

None? Would it depend on who the Democrat was that is running? What if it was Lieberman, Zell or some other DINO? Would that affect the vote for McCain here?

36. Yes but the wingers will still be able to drive their Chevy to the levy
Because the environmental impact statements won't be there to prevent the damage to the environment from all the Chevys mashing down the extracuriculatoribiotic soils and grasses and it will be a long and dusty ride from the myassyourphalt to the cement levy pond.

Drier than a popcorn fart as my grandpa would say.

12. IMO, Dems should take this very seriously - as a warning in fact.
Edited on Sun Nov-21-04 03:57 PM by Zorra
I believe this because of my experiences in talking with folks that were lukewarm on Kerry and supported him because they hated Bu$h. The number of times that I heard - "I like John McCain and would vote for him" was far too often for my comfort.

McCain is popular and may very well run as the "moderate republican" alternative to the RW extremism of Bu$h.

Of course, if the media in the US were not under almost complete RW control, Bu$h would not have had a chance in hell of coming close to receiving enough votes to even fraudulently select him to the residency. And McCain, because of his popularity among brainwashed independents, may be the perfect candidate for these "moderate centrist voters" seeking an alternative to their media induced conception of Democrats as being "too liberal".

Please cancel your cable if you have it and become part of the movement to starve the RW media beast. RW opinion news, and RW hate radio, are the primary elements of the continual long term RW plan to limit and bias thought among individuals in the US.

16. Good and Bad
The good news is that he would be far preferable to Bush. Knowing that Republicans are going to have Presidents elected in the 21st century, I'd rather have a McCain type GOP than a Bush type GOP.

We thought that having a GOP candidate on the far right would make it easier to win, but it certainly didn't work out that way.

McCain personally would be a tough candidate due to the way the media covers him. He could get away with a lot more typical political deceit and the media (which prefers to comment on process than ideas) would just talk about how straight talking he is. We know the media would never look at his ideas in detail.

If Kerry ran against him, they'd look down on Kerry's nuanced statements, regardless of whether they are a more accurate description of the issues and choices we face.

Personally I think that McCain's support for Bush was a true flip flop of historical proportions.

He is not loyal to anything but himself. All the moderate Dems who felt he had value ought to learn from this. He sold out his friendship with Kerry . Like Judas , he even denied having acknowledged him as a friend! He supported Bush and now he doesn't ?What a flip flopper!

26. Even if he hadn't sold out his friendship with John Kerry,
(which, I agree, he did) the fact that he OPENLY CAMPAIGNED for BushCo after they completely trashed his reputation in 2000 shows that he will be anyone's bitch if the price is right. I agree with saracat, FUCK MCCAIN!

21. Mc. should focus more on the
Environmental problems we are having to deal with, before BU$CHO, during BU$CHO's reign and the legacy he will leave. He has the power.

If these problems are not dealt with NOW, they are guaranteed to bite us in the ars, (and our kids also).

All the respect that I had for him has disappeared.
