Homes bulldozed to clear way for Bush

ABUJA - Armed police backed by bulldozers tore down illegally built homes and shops in the Nigerian capital Abuja today ahead of a visit by US President George W Bush.

The operation began yesterday after an order from President Olusegun Obasanjo to clean up the city ahead of his American counterpart's arrival, officials said.

In one residential quarter of the city reporter saw around 60 buildings - ranging from brick-built structures to makeshift wooden shanties - ploughed down as hundreds of residents looked on in despair.

"They didn't give us any warning," wailed tailor John Emeka, who saved his sewing machine but lost much of his stock when a joint taskforce of police and environmental protection agents pulled down his business.

2. This reminds me of the book "A Fine Balance".
Every government has it's priorities and they usually don't include the disenfranchised.

6. That is so appalling.
People have lost everything because Bush was "visiting" for a photo op promising money that will never be given.

7. But he's coming home, and he'll be sorry he ever went!

By the time this country is done with Bush and his hideous cronies,
he'll have to hide in his house and send out for food!

Slow to anger, the American people are hell on wheels when they
have been taken advantage of. We have a History of it. Bad mood
arisin'.

9. It has been Potemkin villages all along.
He has never appeared before a REAL audience, and he has never gone anywhere "al fresco". His environment is always controlled, and his backgrounds are always contrived.

11. "Al fresco" as in "in the wild".
He always has a controlled environment. He doesn't dare walk among the people.

12. Every time I think that this administration can't get any lower
they prove me wrong. * and the gang at least are reliable. They can be relied upon to ALWAYS make the wrong choice, the cynical choice, the action that will bring maximum suffering to any of the little people who are unwise enough to share the earth with them.

13. it scares me too...everytime that I think they can't sink much lower
they find some other low-life scummy plan and carry it out....ideas that no sane person with any kind of moral values would carry out...they have no conscience...and that is how hitler operated...

Clinton would have got out of his car and WALKED down that street...

people who have so little, and just so shrub can motorcade down THEIR street...their homes/businesses are destroyed...it amazes me...bush* brings so much shame to America, violating every standard that American stands for...

and the Statue of Liberty...bring us your poor, and your suffering....
