Michael Moore Tops List of Least - Intriguing Stars
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Director Michael Moore, whose anti-Iraq war film ``Fahrenheit 9/11'' sparked a firestorm of controversy before becoming a post-election footnote, topped an annual list on Monday of Hollywood's ``coldest'' celebrities.

The outspoken documentarian, who seemed to be everywhere during the 2004 U.S. presidential campaign, urging defeat of President Bush, ranks No. 1 on this year's ``Frigid 50'' roster of lackluster stars published by online movie magazine FilmThreat.com.

The Web site, known for an anti-establishment take on the entertainment industry, said its list names the stars it found to be the ``the polar opposite of the hottest celebrities: these are the least powerful, least-inspiring, least-intriguing people in Hollywood.''

snip..........

``The Frigid 50 ice pack have left audiences cold with their overbearing personalities, poor career choices and chronic inability to stop making fools of themselves,'' the site said.

Moore qualified because of what the editors saw as an oversized ego. ``Message to Michael: Remember, it's not always about you. Lose the chip on your shoulder,'' the editors said.

I love Film Threat, but they're jealous assholes for this award. Lets see one of their staff make a documentary that's actually successful and meaningful and then they can talk. Screw them.

Now on the other hand...

They're right about most of their other picks.

16. they are probably thinking about him naked
and laying on top of them. Celebrityhood is a totally looks-based subculture. As for luscious Halle Berry, it's payback time for being an over-wired diva. By and large, looks are the chief currency in Hollywood and Moore's no pin-up.

2. They didn't ask me, Mike Moore is a hero
What I want to know is how many other f*cking documentarians are on any top 50 list any way??

This is a snipe job, I bet they made up this crap just to put him at #1, and then had to sit around thinking up the other 50.

There's no such thing as bad publicity.

7. I, too, like Film Threat...
...but I have to agree with jdj's line: "I bet they made up this crap just to put him at #1".

It's rather obvious this is meant to give them some sort of "legitimacy" (which they already have, so for me it begs the question: What's the point?)

Second "clue"? Halle Berry at #2. As self-described supporters of indy film, they're not supposed to even give a fuck about this woman. Period.

So, in view of their "list", I remain true to my own love of indy film: I don't give a fuck.

35. "They didn't ask me, Mike Moore is a hero"
Many years ago while George Washington and his band of misfits were freezing at Valley Forge, less than 20 miles away the British troops were being wined and dined in the best houses in Philadelphia..the British didn't bother wasting their time on Washington considering how inconvenient it was to go out in the cold, and the many well to do residents of Philadelphia agreed, it was only after Washington started to look like he may win that the well to do started to look at him differently. All great movements are from the bottom up as opposed to the top down. Michael Moore may not be liked by the well to do and the elite but the working class see him as someone that is fighting for America.

36. I'm talking about the corrupt leadership in Israel
Ariel Sharon and George W. Bush are on an Imperialist power trip. They use harsh and hateful propaganda to get their point across. Neither of these leaders represent their nation, and neither have a big majority of supporters. This isn't Jewish slander, this is a reference to the government of Israel, which is doing to the Palestinians what we are doing to the Iraqis.

In terms of its success, Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11" is in uncharted territory. By next week it will probably surpass $100 million in domestic box-office revenues, nearly five times as much as the next-highest-grossing documentary feature -- Moore's own "Bowling for Columbine."

19. Bullshit.
First of all, who cares?

Second of all, if you look at their list, you'll see this under his name:

"In one particularly damning sequence, Wilson exposes that in Bowling for Columbine the sequence in which the gun is received from the bank was completely stage-managed. The bank employees reveal how Michael set up the entire scene."

Actually, this isn't "damning" at all. Michael Moore even http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/wackoattacko/index.php">responded to this nonsense:

"The Truth: In the spring of 2001, I saw a real ad in a real newspaper in Michigan announcing a real promotion that this real bank had where they would give you a gun (as your up-front interest) for opening up a Certificate of Deposit account. They promoted this in publications all over the country – "More Bang for Your Buck!"

There was news coverage of this bank giving away guns, long before I even shot the scene there. The Chicago Sun Times wrote about how the bank would "hand you a gun" with the purchase of a CD. Those are the precise words used by a bank employee in the film.

When you see me going in to the bank and walking out with my new gun in "Bowling for Columbine" – that is exactly as it happened. Nothing was done out of the ordinary other than to phone ahead and ask permission to let me bring a camera in to film me opening up my account. I walked into that bank in northern Michigan for the first time ever on that day in June 2001, and, with cameras rolling, gave the bank teller $1,000 – and opened up a 20-year CD account. After you see me filling out the required federal forms ("How do you spell Caucasian?") – which I am filling out here for the first time – the bank manager faxed it to the bank's main office for them to do the background check. The bank is a licensed federal arms dealer and thus can have guns on the premises and do the instant background checks (the ATF's Federal Firearms database—which includes all federally approved gun dealers—lists North Country Bank with Federal Firearms License #4-38-153-01-5C-39922).

Within 10 minutes, the "OK" came through from the firearms background check agency and, 5 minutes later, just as you see it in the film, they handed me a Weatherby Mark V Magnum rifle (If you'd like to see the outtakes, click here).

And it is that very gun that I still own to this day. I have decided the best thing to do with this gun is to melt it down into a bust of John Ashcroft and auction it off on E-Bay (more details on that later). All the proceeds will go to The Brady Campaign To Prevent Gun Violence to fight all these lying gun nuts who have attacked my film and make it possible on a daily basis for America's gun epidemic to rage on."

Edited on Tue Nov-23-04 11:34 PM by FredScuttle
Oversized ego?! Just look at those Kool Kidz from Film Threat take those sacred cows down!

Mahatma Gandhi: Hey beanpole! Lose the chip on your shoulder...it keeps falling off! Seriously, Mo - you have to relax that out-of-control ego and let the British be who they want to be. It's not about you! It's about religious persecution and a foreign occupying force....chill out, man!

Cesar Chavez: Hey vato!! Why you trying to change the world, mang?! You should be happy to pick grapes for pennies on the dollar....look at all the IT jobs that have been lost! Ha-ha! Seriously, dial down the ego, man, and maybe that do-gooder, civil rights for all nonsense may get you somewhere...

MLK: Dude! Duck!

Thomas Paine: Yo! T-Pain-In-Tha'-Membrane! You have to recognize, man! People don't want to hear about the oppression we all face, yo! They want to know who Vince Gallo flipped the bird to at Sundance and which public urinal Courtney Love puked into last night. Forget all that treatise bullshit, man! It's about the 2 picture deal with Sony Classics! Biyotch!

(sorry....just some stream of consciousness venting....as much respect that I have for Mr. Moore in producing a film whose influence almost turned an election in the greatest democracy in human history, I have the same decline in respect for Film Threat, a once great film magazine, now, sadly, appearing that it's bowing to some corporate master)

I can understand criticism of Michael Moore, but to call him and F9/11 "cold"? Blind....fucking blind.

(on edit - I should not post when I'm drunk)

But Michael Moore? Just because he told the truth does not meant that he deserves to top the list of "10 most coldest celebrities".

Mr. Moore is a truth-teller. He exposed Bush for the warmonger that he is. He showed me the other side of the Iraq "war" and was determined to bring Bush down, if it weren't' for the scum bucket repukes.
