Bush Orders the CIA To Hire More Spies
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/washpost/20041124/pl_washpost/a8650_2004nov23&e=3

President Bush (news - web sites) has ordered CIA (news - web sites) Director Porter J. Goss to increase by 50 percent the number of qualified CIA clandestine operators and intelligence analysts, an ambitious step that would mean the hiring and training of several thousand new personnel in coming years.

Bush also ordered the doubling of CIA officers involved in research and development "to find new ways to bring science to bear in the war on terrorism, the proliferation of WMD and against new and emerging threats." In the presidential order, dated Nov. 18 and released by the White House yesterday, Bush also called for a 50 percent increase in the number of CIA officers proficient in "mission-critical languages" such as Arabic.

The directive comes as the CIA is under intense scrutiny and in a period of transition under Goss's new leadership, and as the administration is under pressure to show progress in addressing the shortcomings documented by the Sept. 11 commission this summer. Last week Congress was unable to agree on details of legislation to dramatically reorganize the U.S. intelligence community.

Spooks that will rubberstamp his agenda that is. :eyes:

2. Bush - ways to use science in war on terror - how about faith-based intel?
snip...Bush also ordered the doubling of CIA officers involved in research and development "to find new ways to bring science to bear in the war on terrorism, the proliferation of WMD and against new and emerging threats."

How about funding some "faith-based espionage"?

Couldn't you just pray to God to help you find the terrorists? Why not seek the answerers in scripture?

Why this sudden flip-flop to so-called "science", (which we all know is just a bunch of high-falutin malarkey from those elite liberal eggheads)?

Maybe he can get some super secret scientific spies to sit in a circle and say: we do believe in spooks, we do believe in spooks.
Of course if they refuse do all that, he'll have someone from somewhere high up to out them.

3. Typical bonehead solution
Just throw more bodies at the problem and say "mission accomplished!" with a big cheesy grin. Sad to say, w/o any information whatsoever, he would probably believe his own assinine rhetoric (cough, cough).

When you consider this generation's terrorists were the last generation's CIA assets in Afghanistan and Iran, this hiring decision could really pay dividends in 20 years in the form of future hiring decisions.

8. As Long as they are not Liberal, Democrats, or Gay...
I wonder if the new Porter Goss litmus test will apply to the new spies, and being either liberal, democrat or gay will simply just disqualify you.

9. There is morons concept of reorganization, make it bigger!
What a gigantic jackass.
Instead of doing the hard work, it's HARD WORK, by tearing it down and reorganizing it, he just pours more of our money into it.
So now, just like during the cold war, you will have control freak CIA agents who have big wallets, ruling over small countries like it's their own private fiefdoms.
Frankly, I really don't think moron has the mental capacity to fully understand what it will take and the kind of work needs to be done to really make the 9/11 recommendations work, but then again, maybe he does and he privately realizes he just doesn't have the brains or the will power to take on such a badly needed overhaul.
Out in Hollywood they have a saying, it goes something like this: Good producers solve problems, bad ones pour money on the fire."

There goes our money up in flames.

12. Not clear on the difference between spies and gardeners
More guys can blow more leaves but a crowd of jarhead Christians is not likely to produce Intel worth a damn.

Bushbots stick out anywhere else in the world like a black guy at a Klan rally. They would have about the same life expectancy too.

has the idea of increasing the number of our spies. Maybe he is not quite as mind fuckingly stupid as I thought. I think it was Laura's idea.

That's what we need in the US - a huge, internal spy agency with the power to arrest and detain people without charges.

25. Republicans sure love a HUGE federal government, don't they?
Maybe Bu$h is hiring these new spooks to quietly disappear enemies of the republican party one at a time.

"Hey, where's Susie?"

"I dunno. She was here last night - her car is still in the garage, and her bike is on the back porch. Huh. That's weird - she was planning on protesting electronic voting machines with me later today."

"Yeah - and has anyone seen Rob? Nobody has seen him for a week. Maybe we should call the police."

28. Not spies, a covert army
Edited on Thu Nov-25-04 09:17 PM by PATRICK
That is how they have been abusing the CIA "troops" already. A covert unaccountable invisible(and for the TV more so!) pre-invasion, coup strike force closely allied with all the dirt in every country and private contractors.

This is the sneak chickenhawk's ideal invasion force.

Spies my ass. While they are picking off countries nobody will be guarding the barn, per usual. A backdoor covert military buildup, beautiful in concept, ugly in its perversion.

They may recruit people for the usual Intel work but they can be transformed into a stealth Armed Services.

Another example of treasonous monstrous intent to commit war crimes.
Another "last straw" on the haystack sitting out in plain sight, food for cattle.
