Mizzou will rename arena (alleged Wal-Mart billionaire academic fraud)
The University of Missouri at Columbia's new basketball arena won't be "The Paige" much longer.

The university announced Tuesday that the Laurie family had relinquished the naming rights to the $75 million Paige Sports Arena, which was named after Paige Laurie. The decision came less than a week after allegations of academic cheating surfaced about the Wal-Mart heiress.

In accusations that first aired Friday on the ABC newsmagazine "20/20," a former roommate said she completed most of the course work at the University of Southern California for Laurie, daughter of Blues hockey team owners Bill and Nancy Laurie. The woman, Elena Martinez, said Paige Laurie paid her $20,000 in return for the work over 3 1/2 years. Laurie graduated this year.

A family spokesman has repeatedly declined to comment, saying only that "Paige Laurie's college record is a private matter."

That's what Daddy gets for having the nerve to name high-profile interests after his precious little girl.

Daddy's pro sports operation is also named Paige. What an idiot.

Never name anything after anyone until they are dead.

3. What is her connection to the Wal Mart money?

I thought that Stan Kroenke was heavily involved in the financing of the new center?

5. Stan is her uncle
Bill and Stan have been dubbed the "Married-Wells". Both married Bud Walton daughters that were worth more than a billion dollars.

Both wives let their husbands buy pro sports teams (Blues, Avalanche, Nuggets, Rams) and the arenas in Denver and St. Louis.

Must be nice. "Hey Honey, can I buy myself a baseball team too?"

4. Priceless! I saw that 20/20 story and laughed my ass off that the rich
bitch was outed.

She got her roommate to write all of her papers for her and paid her money for it. The roommate was poor and needed the money.. ironically, the roommate had to drop out because she couldn't afford tuition but she kept helping the rich bitch out by writing her papers for her. The rich bitch graduated because of her roommate's exceptional work.

I LOVE that this was on national t.v.

6. She should have gone to Yale...
where she could have paid the university directly for the grades, done less work, and received an Ivy League degree.

20. Before I read the story, I presumed Martinez graduated from USC too and
was jeopardizing her USC degree by blowing in Laurie.

After I read the story I thought USC should take Laurie's degree away and give it to Martinez.

7. Just how much academic fraud takes place today and has it been any...

...different in American higher education in the past? I believe that the wealthy and privileged have always been able to buy their way through the system. They use their degrees as credentials, but their power and influence always comes from their having money and the wind of established order at their backs. I've worked in and around the boardrooms of corporate America for nearly 40 years and this atmosphere has always been there. It will remain this way until society recognizes and rewards the real contributors and true social justice demands that our economic system work toward that end.

This trip in plain thinking (in the style of George Bernard Shaw and Plato) is to be found at the link below. It is a must read. Must because it applies simple, obvious principles to improve government and bring social justice without the horrors of Communism.

So what if you kicked Mizzou's butt in football and will in basketball...I feel the obligation as well. My nephew lives in Lawrence and is a devout Mizzou fan. He's on his own.

16. Hard for Mizzou people to live in Lawrence
I grew up in MO and went to University of Missouri, but a campus other than Columbia. My first job was in Lawrence, and I got a lot of kidding just for being from UofMO system. It was sweet when Mizzou would beat the Jayhawks in basketball, though.

Why are/were those honky low grade talents, Laurie and Kroenke, on the team?
Kroenke lost many key games last year. Now it is Laurie's turn to lose them.

Well at least the Yankees don't put Steinbrenner kids on the team.

Imagine how the other players feel...

19. This story perfectly captures everything that's wrong with America right..
...now.

Martinez should be the one graduating from USC with a 3.5 GPA and Laurie should have gone to the community college.

This story is perfect. Poor, smart girl can't stay in USC because of money. Rich, dumb girl stays at USC only because of money.

Something is seriously wrong with America right now.

21. seems to me that Laurie's degree should be recinded
and given to Ms. Martinez, who did the work. Laurie should have to endure the public humiliation of being stripped of the degree, since she didn't earn it.
