Bush Wants CIA to Offer Up 'Diverse Views'



CRAWFORD, Texas -- President Bush has ordered up new measures to bolster the CIA in combating weapons of mass destruction and other threats, directing an agency that lawmakers have accused of engaging in "group think" to present "diverse views" to policy-makers.

The new steps came as part of a response to the Sept. 11 commission's report, presented last summer. In measures he approved last Thursday and announced late Tuesday, Bush elaborated on how he will respond to two recommendations he had previously embraced.

He directed Attorney General John Ashcroft to press ahead with a "specialized and integrated national security work force" within the FBI. This group includes agents, analysts, linguists and surveillance experts who seek to cultivate "an institutional culture imbued with a deep expertise in intelligence and national security."

Bush also ordered Ashcroft to improve intelligence information-sharing throughout the government.

wants to "reach out" to others who share his goals? Maybe that word "diverse" doesn't mean what he thinks it means.

Analyst 1: Tehran has 50 tons of enriched uranium and is actively developing a missile program to deliver nuclear weapons on major population centers in Israel and the United States. This could happen as early as next July. We need to invade Iran today.

Analyst 2: I disagree, I think it is closer to 51 tons but I think the attacks will come in August. We need to invade Iran tomorrow.

He speaks with a forked tongue (when he isn't choking on pretzels, that is - imagine trying to eat pretzels with a forked tongue - see, that was the problem...).
