U.S. to Urge EU to Get Tough on Iran Nuclear Aims
VIENNA (Reuters) - The United States will press the EU to get tough with Iran at a meeting of the U.N.'s nuclear watchdog on Thursday, urging a trigger for U.N. Security Council action if Tehran resumes any uranium enrichment work.

~snip~

The European Union (news - web sites)'s "Big Three," Britain, France and Germany, have circulated a draft resolution at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that demands Tehran keep frozen any nuclear work that could help it develop fuel for atomic weapons.

"The Americans are not happy with the draft resolution," said one diplomat, asking not to be identified. "They think there needs to be a trigger that says if (Iran) resumes its uranium enrichment program something will happen."

But this will be tough for the EU, which does not want to anger the Iranians. Tehran rejects U.S. charges that it has a secret atomic weapons program, saying its nuclear program is only for power generation.

To start its nuclear facilities, and there's not one word from Bush.

2. link from am: Iran: China Supports Effort to Avoid U.N.
BEIJING - An Iranian envoy on Wednesday said he had received Chinese support in Tehran's diplomatic campaign to block Washington from having the dispute over Iran's nuclear program referred to the U.N. Security Council.

~snip~

"They are against referral of the Iranian issue to the Security Council," he told reporters. Iran could face sanctions if the investigation is turned over to the council.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry didn't immediately respond to a request for comment on the meetings with Mussavian. But Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing has said previously that Security Council involvement could hinder efforts to resolve the dispute.

China is an IAEA member and holds one of five permanent Security Council seats, with power to veto U.N. actions, making it a potential key ally in any decisions about the Iranian nuclear dispute

3. China just signed a $7 billion contract to buy Iranian oil
Bush will be hard pressed to get any U.N. agreement on Iran's nuclear aspirations.

He would have to go it alone if he attacked Iran, and there's no troops available for that.

And he would get worldwide condemnation if he, or Israel, bombed their nuclear facilities.

Like Pakistan and India, the U.S. is just going to have to resign themselves to a nuclear Iran.

And this is all Bush's fault.

4. Will the neocons still push the envelope under these circumstances?
They seem determined to fully execute their "globalization" plan (Pax Americana).

8. What, the US is too namby pamby to go about doing the work by itself?!
Why the UN now?

This is a crock of steaming cattle cack.

Besides, the US pulled this stunt with Iraq. Turned out to be lies. Will the UN believe us this time? I highly doubt it.

And if Iran has nukes, well it's egg on *'s face.
