Report: (N.J. Sen.) Corzine will announce bid for governor
TRENTON, N.J. -- U.S. Sen. Jon Corzine will run for governor and plans to make that announcement next week, The Star-Ledger of Newark reported Thursday citing seven Democrats familiar with his decision.

Corzine could become the first Democrat to formally declare his candidacy for the November 2005 election. Acting Gov. Richard J. Codey has said he will wait until January to say if he is running for the job, which could mean a primary fight for Democrats.

The first-term senator will announce at a north Jersey news conference that he is forming an exploratory committee, the newspaper reported. Corzine then will host meetings with Democratic leaders and begin to set up a fund-raising group.

Corzine's formal campaign announcement will come early next year, the newspaper reported.

3. I agree.
That said, NJ needs him at home too. Who will they put in his place? Holt?

Man, this is screwed up.

Corzine has said he has a plan to straighten out NJ. He can do it too.

5. This does suck
He's been pretty consistant in voting against Bush's agenda.

Oh well, I don't blame him too much. He figures he can accomplish more as governor than being in the senate minority.

4. Corzine is a rare breed indeed
Isn't he one of the only (if not THE only) guys in the country to win statewide office with a beard?

6. YES!

I have a lot of respect for Corzine, and if he can accomplish some good in NJ quickly, he'd be among the front runners for the Dem nomination in '08. Governors always do better then Senators running for President. The Dems problem right now is we don't have a Governor of a big state that's got any charisma.(although I have to admit I don't know much about Warner of Virginia, or Rendell of Pennsylvania).

Corzine as Governor of New Jersey would give the Dems a viable, and competitive option for '08.

7. Corzine running for Governor
There are a handful of Southern Governors like Mike Easley of N.C.who just won reelection and also even better the youngest Governor in the nation Brad Henry of O.K. who both would be good canidates for 08. Hillary Clinton is a bad choice she would just fire up the republican base to vote against her. plus she's got to much baggage with the travel gate.and she has the problem Kerry had she's a senator and they don't get elected to the Whitehouse.

8. some info on Easley
While Mike Easley would appear to be an attractive presidential candidate on the surface, some digging on my behalf found these concerns.

* Easley is sorely lacking charisma and personality, while this may seem trivial we need to accept the fact that it does matter. Many have described him as a boring speaker who could be described as introverted.

* He has overcome a learning disability to get elected as a prosecutor and now governor twice. His disability was in the area of reading. Easley overcame this issue with his photographic memory. To this day, he has aides read things to him instead of reading reports himself.

10. Good points

You're right, in todays world of TV sound bytes, personality and charisma is important. You have to be "marketable". It would also help to have some decent accomplishments on your resume.
As I said earlier, I don't know anything about Rendall, or Warner, and I wasn't even aware that NC & OK had Democratic governors. I do know a little about Corzine, and what I know, I like.

I would love to see a ticket in '08 with a couple of Governors on it. Especially if one of them were a southerner.

11. that's what i heard he would do and i think it's great
i was upset at the thought of Corzine leaving the Senate because i didn't know who would replace him. but if it means putting Menendez in the Senate and Corzine in the Governor's seat then it's as perfect as can get.

and i can't wait for Spitzer to be Governor of New York also. Massachusettes needs to get rid of Romney. all these Democratic states with Republican governors who whore for Bush makes me sick.

i'm in California so i have to do my part to get rid of that buffoon.
