United May Seek End to Union Contracts

http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/041125/united_airlines_5.html

<snip>

CHICAGO (AP) -- United Airlines is asking a bankruptcy court to void its union contracts if the company can't secure an extra $725 million in cost savings from workers by mid-January.
<snip>
The nation's No. 2 airline says it needs the additional labor concessions and the ability to drop traditional pensions to secure financing and leave bankruptcy. The cuts would come atop the $2.5 billion United employees have already made in annual labor concessions.

1. if those bastards dare harm those poor union people...
then i'll make sure that together we'll make that bankrupcy become permanent! are they rewarding their stockholders and CEO's with excessive bonuses on top of this as most companies do, a la PG&E?

if they reneg United Airlines pensions, squash unions, and reduce their working employees' livelihood i'll be a very mad consumer. How in the hell did they get to this place in the first place!?! United used to be a very powerful carrier! Who was the incompetent CEO that dragged this company into such desperate times? I can assure you that the mechanics, pilots, and flight assistants did not make the big decision. SO angry! And right near the holidays!

United, be aware, we are watching. Full disclosure, no pampering of top dawgs, real effort to improve the company. anything less and you face an army of angry consumers who'd rather watch you evaporate than let you get away with renegging on the union contracts and pension responsibilities.

Let the word "boycott" loom over the decision-makers heads so that they do the right thing for the company and the workers. solvency and competence, not excuses and chicanery!

2. This is the culmination of many years' "work"..
These airlines know exactly what they are doing.. They have compressed down to a precious few, so there is very little competition for consumer or disgruntled employee..This is just the final phase of their coup.. Abolish unions, egt cheaper workers.. more profits for the stockholders and the CEOs..

Once one does it, the others will HAVE to follow suit, because the first one to accomplish it will artificially lower prices so that their competitors will not be able to match them untilk they too, go non-union.. The laid off/fired union employees will have NOWHERE to go, so they will swallow hard and take another step down the ladder of poverty..

You young ones do not knwo how the airline business USED to be..There were MANY MANY carriers to choose from..service was the name of the game, and the employees were happy campers who treated you like kings when you flew..

Now it's like taking a greyhound bus with wings.:(
