Cuba says it has restored formal relations with Spain, a year after the European Union imposed diplomatic sanctions on the communist island.

Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque announced the decision Thursday, shortly before a meeting in Havana with new Spanish Ambassador Carlos Zaldivar.

6. No kidding. That bothers me too.
The reason why I like Zapatero and Fidel is because they are serious about such things as child abuse rings and fighting illegal drugs. Then when I find out that the Repugs engage in these crimes it answers my questions.

7. I like Zapatero just fine, I have major issues with Fidel
his possible involvement or passivity in the death of Che Guevara makes me not like him. However the killing of Che may be the only time that the Russians, the CIA, and Castro ever agreed on anything, good riddence to all three.

9. From what I've read the Russians were pissed b/c Che was calling
them out for being fascists not true communists and that was becoming a thorn in the side of Castro who was almost exclusively trading with Russia.

So again I think that Che was a problem for all of them.

13.  I'd love to see some bona fide sources, also!
Really good information seems so hard to find! A lot of people give up thinking about learning the real info. (causes headaches) and live solely with the propaganda handed around from the l960's, which is comical, at times.

In his confusion, he 'scaped too soon! No Fidel then!

10. You're right. Felix Rodriguez even stole Che Guevara's graduation watch
He swiped it as soon as possible, and has flaunted it about from that time onward. Tacky business.

Here's a photo of Felix Rodriguez after he had taken charge of the injured (shot) Che Guevara.

Here he is, years later, sitting with Vice
President George H. W. Bush in the Vice
President's home.

Hand written Christmas note from Bush to Felix Rodriguez.

Regarding that rumor we have heard circulated by a certain element in our own American right-wing, probably Miami "exile" hardliners, that Fidel Castro had his good friend, Che Guevara murdered. It's crap. Ignorance allows people who don't read to swallow whatever bilge they substitute as actual information.

From a review of a book on Che Guevara by Jon Lee Anderson:
At a certain point in the mid- 60's Ernesto Che Guevara came to a dramatic conclusion. He could not win his battle for a morally based socialism if Cuba remained isolated in the American hemisphere and dependent on Soviet economic aid and its attendant advisors. Revolutionaries could not wait for "objective conditions" supporting armed struggle to develop, by daring, aggressive and violent actions they would create the circumstances. The goal was nothing less than declaring a second "Vietnam" war in the American hemisphere. In an almost unprecedented act he voluntarily removed himself from power and privilege. The "bureaucrat" behind a desk, (do you remember a similar scene in Brando's "Viva Zapata?") would once again return to the third - world's jungles and mountains as a revolutionary guerrilla fighter. The effort appears even more amazing in light of Che's unimproved asthma. The years that had passed since his Sierra Maestra days had not been kind to his health. Che's abandonment of power and his complete disappearance from public life was the sources of ceaseless rumor and speculation. I remember being told by some members of a Maoist group that Che had been murdered by Castro at the behest of Russia. Trotskyists floated comparisons between the Stalin - Trotsky feud and feared the worst. Anderson documents that there was no Che - Fidel falling out.

14. Lay off Cuba
It's about time the US cuts the crap and lays of Cuba. If we trade with China, there is no reason to impose such devastating sanctions on Cuba. At least Castro takes care of his people with free clinics in every neighborhood. There is also is a 98% literacy rate in Cuba. What do we, the richest nation on earth, have to show for our wealth and power?

Pooping on Cuba is almost a tradition handed down from president-to-president. Such a backward way of dealing with countries. Better they should be welcomes into the world community.
