Malaysia And Cuba To Undertake Strategic Co-operative Ventures

Malaysia and Cuba will undertake co-operative ventures in strategic areas such as biotechnology, biomedicine as well as in agricultural-related sectors to widen the scope for bilateral linkages, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

In announcing this here Wednesday, he said a joint commission would closely examine the possibilities of manufacturing products such as vaccines in Malaysia when they meet possibly next year in Kuala Lumpur.

This would go a long way in rectifying the almost negligible trade and investment linkages between the two countries, he told a press conference at the end of the first day of his visit to Cuba.

Abdullah had earlier arrived at the Jose Marti International Airport from Ecuador to begin a significant visit -- his first as Prime Minister -- ahead of the 30-year anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Malaysia and Cuba.
