IAEA needs to further probe A Q Khan network in Iran case
<snip> "... Further investigation is required of the clandestine (A Q Khan) supply network in order for the (International Atomic Energy) Agency to be able to corroborate the information that Iran has provided, and to conclude its assessment of the extent of Iran's centrifuge enrichment programme" IAEA chief Mohammad El Baradei said in a report presented to the Agency's board in Vienna yesterday.

"In view of the past undeclared nature of significant aspects of Iran's nuclear programme, and its past pattern of concealment, the conclusion (whether it has diverted material to prohibited activities), can be expected to take longer than in normal circumstances," El Baradei said.

"A confidence deficit has been created and confidence needs to be restored. Iran's active cooperation and full transparency is, therefore, indispensable," he said.

"There remain two important issues concerning Iran's past undeclared programme that are relevant to the Agency's ability to provide assurance that there are no undeclared enrichment activities in Iran: the origin of the low enriched and high enriched uranium particle contamination found at various locations in Iran, and the extent of Iran's efforts to import, manufacture and use centrifuges of both the P-1 and P-2 designs," El Baradei said.
