Two Marines Killed in Fallujah Clash (#1231 #1232)
FALLUJAH, Iraq - Two Marines were killed and three others wounded when they came under fire during house-clearing operations in Fallujah, the U.S. military said Friday.

Lt. Gen. John F. Sattler, commanding general of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, said the U.S. troops were ambushed Thursday by insurgents from inside a house as they entered it.

Marines responded with gunfire, killing three rebels hiding inside, Sattler said.

U.S. troops have continued house-to-house clearing operations in the former-rebel stronghold, which came under a massive week-long U.S.-led assault that began Nov. 8. Though most of the major fighting has ended, pockets of insurgent holdouts remain throughout Fallujah.

6. Prelude to Escalation Etude in F( as in *UCKED)
Great strategy...stake your feet to the ground, then whack the hornets' nests all around you.

The only solution is to call for help. This is eerily reminiscent of the mid-sixities and Vietnam.

I expect to be reading about escalation, the draft, ending inflation, growing budget deficit, war protests and promises of plans to end the war in headlines for at least the next 5 years.

4. They were ambushed inside someone's house
Edited on Fri Nov-26-04 07:12 AM by teryang
Has an odd ring to it. I invaded someone's home and they then had the nerve to ambush me. I invaded and occupied someone's country and the "rebels" there then had the nerve to attack me.

7. Also Fallujah "remains without power or water"
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/4044235.stm

"Following the US-led offensive, launched almost three weeks ago, the city remains without power or water.

The Iraqi Red Crescent said on Thursday it had managed to deliver food aid, and that its volunteers would stay to help bury the dead and evacuate families still trapped in Falluja"

13. I wish I felt bad for these soldiers, but I do not
no man has the right to kill without thinking about
who he is killing and why he is killing them, first.
if it came down to me being 'forced' to kill innocent people
because I 'needed the money' or living in a box by the river,
I would chose the box by the river.
what ever happened to men of conviction and true courage?

14. As a Viet Nam refusenik, I agree 100%
We did it then, why not now?
We looked at the facts, refused to go, and took the punishment.
I refused to kill even one innocent man, woman or child.
It is not enough to say I don't support Bush:
I do not support the troops.
