Governor Bush aims to duck lame role

Palm Beach Post

TALLAHASSEE — With his brother reelected to the White House and two final years as governor ahead of him, Jeb Bush has made it plain that he does not intend to slip quietly into lame-duck status.

"I'm going to finish as I started, with the same energy, the same passion," Bush said recently, rattling off a list of priorities he wants to finish before leaving office. "I intend to work with the legislature to accomplish big things, not little things. I'm not going out on a slow, downward slope. I don't intend to do that."

Tom Lee, the new Senate president, may have something to say about that.

He has had major disagreements with Bush on several significant issues during the past six years and, during his first few days as Senate president, he has made it clear that Bush's agenda is not necessarily the Senate's agenda.

2. Senate president could be a thorn in Jeb's side
The interesting thing about this article is that Tom Lee, now the Senate president, and although he is a Republican, has in the past thwarted Jeb's attempts at California style energy deregulation (under pressure from Enron, according to Lee) and Jeb's attempts to impose strict caps on medical malpractice jury awards.

Jeb may indeed be more lame than he wanted, especially in the litigation reform area.
