Afghan child dies in protest over US detentions
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/L28144848.htm

JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Nov 28 (Reuters) - A little girl was shot dead on Sunday during protests by thousands of tribesmen in eastern Afghanistan against detentions by U.S.-led forces, officials said.

Up to 6,000 protesters blocked about five kms (three miles) of the main road link from the eastern city of Jalalabad to Pakistan to protest against the arrest of several locals, including a woman, on Friday night, police said.

Faizanulhaq, a spokesman for the provincial government, said there had been some shooting during the protest in Bati Kot district in which a child died and a protester was wounded, but security forces had not been involved.

"The child was not from among the protesters," he said. "It's not clear who fired the bullet that killed her, but it did not come drom the security forces."

Residents of a village neighbouring Falluja have told Aljazeera that they helped bury the bodies of 73 women and children who were burnt to death by a US bombing attack.

5. Only this week someone wrote an article describing our officer asking
Iraqis to volunteer to return to Fallujah to help bury the dead. Hearing something like this actually makes one sadder than ever thought possible.

How low is the real lowest human beings can become? Is there even a limit, or is it simply open to unfolding levels of the crudest, unambiguous savagery?

Don't ask for a link. I saw it and didn't even finish the article. Couldn't. Maybe someone else will remember.

6. I have the article, and it was deputed vehemently by the trolls
The degree of civilization in a society can be judged by entering its prisons: Fyodor Dostoyevsky: Russian novelist, 1821-1881

Abu Ghraib just came to my mind........

7. Where is the rest of the world???
Where is the UN?? When Hitler invaded country after country, the world finally woke up.

Is every country on this planet so beholden to the US, financially and otherwise, that there is no atrocity too great that will cause them to mobilize against us??

If this is the case, then we really are doomed, because there is NO country safe from our depradations.

10. As civilizations come and go the majority will always have
its collective head up it's ass looking for that safe haven in the name of Jays'us Christ. Yes, my friend we are doomed! At least we get to start all over again like other civilizations that started from the one cell amoeba. As long as we have oxygen we'll survive for another round.

Until we learn that we are creative beings and not that competitive thing that wars and lies and chases balls of all shapes and has a love relationship for money in the name of God! It may take us through a million civilizations, in time we'll make it.

9. So YOU'RE the one, 0007. Well done posting it. Didn't get to read more
so I missed the prepostorous protestations by the troll creatures.

They do flip-flop, don't they? Pretensions of such lofty behavior, yet you challenge one of them by presenting the truth, and they are foaming at the mouth, ripping, kicking and biting away at Democrats as if there is no tomorrow: instant murderous rage when confronted, within moments of their hilarious pious posturing.

Your Dostoevsky quote is so accurate. People expose themselves utterly when they believe they are the ultimate power. This is no problem when the people in question are actually good.

The story is in the thread starter as I'm sure you'll find, and also that I didn't start the thread.

14. Thanks for the link to that thread. Some outstanding comments
from some great DU'ers, and the usual, predictable gibberish from the visitors.

They really haul @$$ in a hurry to comfort each other, don't they? Maybe we need a troll ambulance!

Another visitor.

11. The degree of civilization in a society can be judged
by entering its prisons? We are the prison capital of the world. Mandatory sentences, three stike laws, prison for non violent offenders.
If that saying is true we are the most uncivilized country in the civilized world.

16. They say if you vote republican when you are young, you have no
heart and if you vote democrat when you are old you have no brain. I found just the opposite to be true for me. When I was young I was more conservative then I am now. What happened? I became a cynic. When I was young I was brainwashed to believe everything was fine and maybe when I was young it was. Now, I took off my rose colored glasses and I see the world for what it is. I stopped hearing and started listening. I learned things don't come in shades of black and white. I can see the gray now. I think people are scared to see reality because they would rather delude themselves into thinking everything is just hunky dory. I chose the red pill many people take the blue. I have always been democrat but didn't always vote democrat, most of my immediate family is democrat, so I went with the flow as my kids did. When I registered my kids to vote, I registered them as democrats but I did ask them first. Thank God my kids are liberal are at least moderate.

15. I read recently that Florida has built so many prisons
that some of them were built far ahead of the actual need and are virtually empty!

Still, it provides a good living for the people who benefit from our massive prison industries! That's all that counts, apparently.
