World 'failed' Bhopal gas victims
BBC

The world has failed to help survivors of the Bhopal gas leak in India 20 years ago or to punish the guilty, Amnesty International says.

The human rights group says India's government has not distributed most of the nearly $500m compensation paid by US firm Union Carbide, the plant owner.

At least 15,000 people died after the toxic leak at the pesticide factory in the central Indian city in 1984.

Survivors are still suffering chronic respiratory and other illnesses.

1. $500 Million!
Edited on Mon Nov-29-04 11:22 AM by tk2kewl
If that isn't reason enough for tort-reform I don't know what is.

<sarcasm off>

on eidt: if you divide the dammages by the dead and injured it is only about $4000 per person.

2. What we need
Obviously, what we need is a Global War on Corporate Negligence.

We need to catch and kill the evil doers wherever they hide, and hold nations who harbor them accountable.

You are either with us or against us.

God bless America.

4. that was sarcasm
the point is $500mil is a pittance. 15,000 dead 100,000 injured. Tor reform will allow similar disregard for human life here in the US.
