Police hunt missing British soldier, feared armed

LONDON (AFP) - Police in Britain's second city of Birmingham were searching for a 21-year-old Iraq (news - web sites) war veteran who went missing with a stolen assault rifle.

Without giving details, he said three people were being questioned in connection with Piotrowski's disappearance

Piotrowski served three months in Iraq at the height of the US and British invasion that began in March 2003, and was "promoted very quickly in recognition of his skills and ability", Hyde said.

The soldier is suspected of stealing an SA-80 assault rifle from an army barracks, police added.
