U.S. Death Toll in Iraq Ties Record (135 in Nov.)

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20041130/ap_on_re_mi_ea/us_iraq&cid=540&ncid=1480

<snip>
At least 135 U.S. troops died in November. That is the same number as last April, when the insurgence flared in Fallujah and elsewhere in the so-called Sunni Triangle where U.S. forces and their Iraqi allies lost a large measure of control.

On Nov. 8, U.S. forces launched an offensive to retake Fallujah, and they have engaged in tough fighting in other cities since then. More than 50 U.S. troops have been killed in Fallujah since then, although the Pentagon (news - web sites) has not provided a casualty count for Fallujah for more than a week.

From the viewpoint of the United States and Iraqis who are striving to restore stability, the casualty trend since the interim Iraqi government was put in power June 28 has been troubling. Each month's death toll has been higher than the last, with the single exception of October, when it was 63.

The monthly totals grew from 42 in June to 54 in July to 65 in August and to 80 in September.

2. Americans aren't going to put up with this much longer...
...opposition to this war is fairly large already and it will only grow because this war is not winable.

You are not alone. There are plenty of us out here who are intelligent, well-read enough and independent thinkers who can see through the bullshit.

12. Never underestimate the ignorance of Americans
Took 'em over 10 years and 50,000 dead Americans before they figured out that getting involved in Vietnam was a huge mistake. Its going to be about the same number of deaths this time.

27. I respectfully (maybe hopefully) disagree
I still have faith in the majority of Americans to realize this could quickly become another Vietnam. The reason I believe so is that this time we have a Vietnam to look back on and see what a disaster it was. Of course, this presumes a Democratic Party that is will to harness the energy we brought to the recent election - that worries me.

At any rate, marching does no good.
We tried that, remember. Bush will have his
invasion of Iran, and we are going to let him do it.

15. Color me naive but I'm still hopeful that the msm is responsible
enough to report this on tonight's evening news. I guess we'll see. It is significant news and pro-war Bushies will have no choice but to take note of the obvious: things are not getting better in Iraq!

But if the story goes unreported the media is as guilty of pulling the wool over the public's eyes as this hypocritical heathen administration is. The sin of omission is the media's worst fault I think- that's why the election went down the way it did as well, that's why Rummy & co. got away with creating this war and all their atrocities, and on and on....

What a mess.

Can we impeach the msm?

You won't hear a word about this on television. Too busy drumming up fake controversies, and talking about the boffo Christmas shopping season.

19. As long as the public can be convinced this war can be won,
this will continue to happen. Fortunately for bush,
the public is not very critical. Must not worry our
beautiful minds.

24. I think you are being way too kind
At least half of the US care only about themselves.
The other half are too passive to do anything.
There is no need for bush to convince anybody of anything.
The plans are already in motion.

21. The war, moron and the truth...
The reality is this, the bullshit reason as to why we are there in the first place aside for a moment, Iraq is fucked up because the military tried at first to do the clean war, the wolfiwitz war, the candy and flowers war, the lets rush in a and be hailed as hero's war, but the problem with that is, and as we have found out, they don't want us there. So rather than doing the right thing and getting the hell out, we stayed and then the real problems began. It's a self perpetuating prophecy. We are there, they don't want us, they push back, we push back harder, they push more, we disregard human rights, we start shooting, they start chopping off heads and it's basically war time geometric progression.
This will not get better, it will get worse. As long as we are there, the Iraqi's resolve will become more acute. Many field commanders are now saying that the Iraqi rebels have become clever, using more advanced tactics, have a supply support system, have networked themselves through out the country and are now a worthy adversary. This all could have been avoided, but because moron chose to listen to the uninformed, we are now in deep shit.
As they military goes on to "falusha" each new city that is a "rebel" hold out, expect more record numbers in the coming months. This is just the start of the pacification of Iraq.
I have said on my blog and I will say it here, we need to pull out at the cost of "losing" the war.
If we win, what do we really get? A subjugated population that is afraid of us? A people to timid to speak up? This to me is not winning, it's occupation with a different name.
What a complete waste of human life. Needless suffering. We made this war. Period. We started it and now moron can't find a way to finish it.
