12 Marines Contract Malaria in Liberia

"WASHINGTON (AP) - Twelve U.S. Marines who were in Liberia last month have been diagnosed with malaria and 21 other U.S. troops have symptoms of the disease, defense officials said Monday...

U.S. troops normally receive an anti-malarial drug regimen before deploying to a country like Liberia where there is risk of getting the disease. Peppler and DeFrank said it was not immediately clear whether the Marines who fell ill had taken such medication. "

This is a farce - someone needs to get fired for this. It's not like they didn't have time to prepare for this.

Goodness. This is what happens when they stop letting the dependants sell Avon "skin so soft" on the base anymore.

Seriously, this is bad - and shows a distinct degredation of standard field health and troop welfare activity. There is no reason whatsoever nowdays why this number of Marines should have come down with malaria.

But on reflection, we are dealing with a CiC and administration that believe in privatization, "bottom lining" operating costs and safety materials for maximum profit.

To this current CiC, Marines are worth less than the profit their ammunition and weaponry makes for the manufacturing barons.
