Steel from World Trade Center to be Used in Navy Ship
"ABOUT 24 tons of steel from the ruins of the World Trade Centre is being melted down to form part of a US Navy ship that will be named the USS New York.

Casting of a section called the bow stem was set for today at a foundry in Amite. The section will later be shipped to the shipyard of the Northrop Grumman Corp at Avondale, just outside New Orleans.

"Symbolically, the World Trade Centre steel will be the first part of the ship slicing through the water," Ed Winter, a spokesman for Northrop Grumman's shipbuilding division, said."

I'm unsure about this......in one way, I like the idea of renewal and the rebirth of the WTC......on the other hand, I'm not happy about such a symbol of tragedy and suffering becoming part of a warship.

1. No! For me this is the equivalent of putting steel from the Arizona
in a new ship named the Arizona.

I think this is a profoundly bad idea and to a certain extent dishonors the memory of those who died.

2. Talk about crass
I wonder how many of those who died in WTC would have liked their memory to be associated with the American military machine?

5. Let me guess...
It'll be ready to sail just before the '04 Presidential election. They'll dust off pResident Evil's "flightsuit" just for the occasion.

7. Yes, after the asbestos and other toxins were scraped off
They rushed that steel out of the site in record time. Faster than the EPA could say "wait a minute..."

8. Sailors can be a pretty superstitious bunch
Personally I would hate to be onboard this ship, I'd figure it was hexed.
