Air Travelers May Be Assigned Color Codes
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=514&ncid=514&e=1&u=/ap/20030909/ap_on_re_us/passenger_review
WASHINGTON - The government and the airlines reportedly will phase in a computer system next year to measure the risk of every passenger who boards a flight in the United States by using color codes.

According to the Washington Post, passengers will be assigned one of three codes, based in part on their travel plans, traveling companions and the date the ticket was purchased. Sources say those coded "green" will easily pass through security checkpoints. Others will be coded "yellow" and face additional screening. An estimated 1 to 2 percent who get "red" coding will be barred from boarding and face police questioning. They may be arrested.

Critics fear the new system will be far too intrusive, and that some people will be mistakenly "flagged" and even falsely arrested.

this is about the most insane idea ever to surface from this regime.

Doesn't this just scare you to death? Not the possibility of someone being a terrorist but the idea of categorizing us. I really think I need to make a donation to the ACLU.

I'll leave the whole ridiculous color wheel system for others to decimate. But I travel fairly frequently and I've never seen 1 to 2 percent of passengers stopped from boarding and led away in handcuffs. What gives in this brave new world?

17. Can I Be Aquamarine?
I would prefer that to green.

If i'm yellow, i'd like a more piquant shade.

I doubt i'll be red, despite the Saddam Hussein mustache, but if so, i'd like it to be claret or burgandy.

Just plain old red, yellow, or green is so boring. I'd fell insulted if everytime i went to the airport i was "merely green".

What a stupid idea, this is! If someone isn't allowed to board the plane, they ALREADY have enough reason to arrest them. They don't need the color coding at all!

Man Mails Self Home To Parents

DALLAS -- Charles McKinley found a unique way to save a few bucks getting to his parents' house: He crawled into a wooden airplane cargo crate and succeeded in shipping himself from New York to Texas via Fort Wayne.

After hours of traveling, the 25-year-old New York City man pried open the crate with a crowbar Saturday morning. He popped up outside his parents' doorstep in the south Dallas suburb of DeSoto, shook the hand of a shocked delivery man and walked away. The delivery man called DeSoto police, who arrested him on outstanding Texas warrants.

Officials said McKinley's crate was put aboard a pressurized Boeing 727 from Kennedy International Airport to Fort Wayne. The crate was transferred to a second plane bound for Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. The FBI and the Transportation Security Administration are investigating.

22. It was a topic in a lounge thread earlier
but only 6 people responded. I don't think that very many people thought like you and I.....if this guy could travel to his parents home in a commercial shipping crate, why couldn't a terrorist strap on some explosives and do the same thing, except blow himself up while the flight is in mid-air? We'll color code passengers, but we won't check commercial cargo.....This is insane!!

31. It AINT about
stopping terrorists!
We know this from the WTC attack.
They were warned and did NOTHING!
This is about putting a system in place that APPEARS
to be about security but is in reality a very efficient
method to start the round ups.

Read "They Thought they Were Free" sometime.
Sorry, can't recall the author's name.

37. "This is insane"
I hear in Europe planes are equipped with
bomb proof pods that hold the luggage. Of
course we don't have that. I also heard
that airlines could put protection from
hand propelled rockets on each plane for
about one million each. It is all economics,
American businesses factor in human losses
and as long as its cheaper to lose lives than
update with protection they will choose
to do nothing to make us safer.
You are right...it is insane.

"can never imagine the possibility that a government

Which is EXACTLY what the Fascist Cabal has known all along,
known, and counted on.
It is the basic premise as to why they will suceed.

28. We don't have to build anything!
We have PLENTY of empty military bases here in a'murikkka!
and apparently, they are going to be empty for a LOOONG time,
so lot's of room for all those pesky unemployed and dissident types!
Oh, they've thought of everything, haven't they?
It will be so easy to transport unpatriotic airport patrons to
local cilvilian camps. Halliburton has already profited from
building the army bases, little did the tax-payers know then
that they would get to stay there later! At least they will be fed
which might be a relief to some of the folks who can't find a job...

I repeat: Equal opportunity poverty IS the PLAN!
If you aren't broke, they will get you at the airport
for being an unpatriotic dissenter.

29. Would this be any improvement
over passengers who happen to have name same as or similar to people on the "watch list" who currently get stopped every time they try to fly. My local newspaper (Kansas City Star) did an article on this several months back. I seem to recall someone with this problem had a name as common as "David Hughes".

Of four major trips I took this summer, three were by car because I'm no longer willing to put up with the idiocy of air travel if I can avoid it.

34. Actually . . .
I think this is a step in the right direction. Let's start profiling and looking for the terrorists as opposed to looking for the weapons. While I do not know if this system is the correct system it certainly seems like we are coming to our senses regarding who gets identified as potential suspects.

38. This Isn't About Stopping Terrorists...
...who never travel under their real names anyway.
This is about stopping the political opposition.

They said "only 1 or 2%" will be on the red list.
That could be one out of every 50 Americans.

And they intend to have it in place just as the 2004 campain starts heating up
(or the protests resulting from the 2004 election getting called off).
