Looks like WMD is not all that * is "fudging" about. Might be
GDP too.

2. ok, I'll say it, he lied. This Economic information that was

manipulated affects every one of us. I have long felt that the
Housing numbers have been massaged, and I know that banks have
dragged out Foreclosures for 6 mos to one year, so as not to
negatively inpact the market. If Americans can't believe in
Economic numbers, we're all walking around with blindfolds.

11. In June, insider selling was the highest it's been since 95.
I have sold into the run, too. Even if you're an optimist, there aren't too many economic indicators looking good. Greenspan is out of interest cuts, and that will take away his best tool to mask/slow down the faltering of the economy.

if people vote their paycheck, Chimp will be in trouble by the election. Whether he hides stats or not, people know their own bottom line, and it's going down faster than George Tenet at a security briefing.

12. Something else to watch

After Hours trading. I saw a wagon-load of stuff getting dumped.
For example the night before the 100 pt DOW dump, MSFT traded
1,153,762 as well as AOL, JDSU, CSCO and a bunch of others. Volume
is not usually that large in afterhours trading. This is the
Dump part of Pump & Dump.

13. I can prove that one....
and I know that banks have dragged out Foreclosures for 6 mos to one year

I can prove that one....

We declared bankruptcy in October (gave up the house). It's now July, and we STILL haven't been to court for a foreclosure hearing yet. The bankruptcy's been cleared since March, everything else has been handled.

But we've only seen one forclosure notice, and we don't expect to have to move for a few more months.

5. This Slate article is on the money - and quite correct.
Unlike the early version with it's ref to the O'Neill liability on Social Security, this one leavesO'Neill with single comment - that it is a 75 year projection in a Bush world where Bush says projections beyond 5 years are unreliable.

And that is easier to understand than anything else they could say.

An excellent article.

6. I just hate him more each day
Can he do anything openly? Can his so called christian self follow the ten commandments when he is awake?

This is all Clintons fault. If Laura Bush was better in bed George would spend more time with her and less time ruining the country. She refuses to be better in the sack because that would be something the Clintons would do. So this is Clintons fault that Bush lies.<sarcasm>

7. Why blame Laura?
If anybody's to blame on that account, it's Georgiepoo. Old drunks can't get it up.

8. What really bothers me about the Bush Junta, is that there

there is this prevailing attitude that they are really going to pull
this off! Granted we, the American people, are like that distasteful
analogy of the frog in the pot of water--the temperature rising so
slowly that by the time the frog realizes what is happening, it is
too late. The smugness of Bush, Cheney, and that hideous Rumsfeld
feeding our soldiers into the wood chipper, and Bush saying "bring
it on". The lunatic Economic policies like Trickle Down Economics
that were proven to be disastrous, and that the American people allow,
coupled with the even more lunatic idea that the Fed can keep printing
money, or buying Long Bonds until magically all is well--is historic
in its hubris.

Thankfully, it appears that political blowback appears to be on the
way, followed by the necessary catharsis of our Economy. I guess
the wisdom of a local Texas rancher says it all: "That whole bunch
really needs to be got outta there". Amen!

9. Falling apart on their own
is NOT good enough! All the deception, all the crimes, all the damage done to democracy would still be in place. Like Rome, once the Republic was taken done, it never came back. No efforts tackled the main problems. None restored true democracy.

A one-handed clap to America because the bad guys, glutted on excesses, collapsed all on their own.

What next? What myth would save us from a worse repetition, MORE ruthless and efficient and glib? Bush is a symptom of the national disease.

10. Can it be saved?

I've often wondered if it isn't too late to save this country--
to restore it to what it was. What can a newly elected Democratic
President do to save an Economic infrastructure that has such
downside Momentum? What can he do to rebuild the credibility
of a U.S. who's image is shattered? The Bush Administration
has planted its tentacles into every Branch of Government.
The PNAC has been many years in planning. Can it be stopped
without creating vulnerability in our Military? Can a Deficit
with unlimited increases be reversed? I don't know, but it
will be like the Labors of Hercules for those who inherit the
mantle of the Blackness on Pennsylvania Avenue.

15. Don't think it can be
Sorry to be a pessimist, but it doesn't look good. Patrick used Rome as a comparison in his post above--I happen to think it's a good one for us to use--and he's right: once Rome lost the republic, it never came back. There were emperors that tried--Philip (around Decius' time) tried to restore the honor and integrity of Rome decades of corruption and murder (just read about it in Gibbon's Decline and Fall.) But the military's grasp on the throne thwarted anyone's attempt to restore the republic. We've got a similar situation, but instead of armies threatening to march on anyone who dared to weaken their power, we have corrupt corporations that hold sway over every facet of our lives. Mess with them and they'll lay people off, cut pay, cut benefits, you name it. I believe that our government's servile attitude towards corporate America has seriously screwed our democracy forever.
