Dixie Chicks Blast Schwarzenegger
Robison casts her vote against Arnold in Governor's race

Six months after anti-George Bush remarks made by singer Natalie Maines onstage in London erupted into a conservative backlash in the United States, the Dixie Chicks are on tour in Europe again and targeting another high-profile Republican.
" is a great film star," banjo player Emily Robison told a German newspaper, "but I find his run for governor absolutely insane."
The Terminator star and former Mr. Universe is the leading Republican candidate in the California recall ballot to replace Governor Gray Davis, and has drawn ire from women's groups over his days as a playboy bodybuilder.
"America should be governed by people who have a clue," Robison continued. "I hope he doesn't win."
A wee bit more ...

I have to disagree with Emily, Aunald is not a "great film star." His acting sucks.

Recall no, Bustamante yes!

5. If the Republicans
are consistent they should not vote for AS because isn't Austria "Old Europe?" AS is Old Europe with a Democrat wife.

You must have missed their interview with Diane Sawyer--they held their ground--very impressive. Some Democratic men should have such balls!

10. " is a great film star"
That's being pretty generous, considering you're talking about a bodybuilder with an austrian accent playing the part of a robot with an austrian accent.
He's right up there with Andre the Giant and Hulk Hogan.

11. Maybe the chicks caught wind of this quote . . .
Edited on Tue Sep-09-03 08:22 PM by TeeYiYi
. . . from last month's Esquire magazine:

"As much as when you see a blonde with great tits and a great ass,
you say to yourself, 'Hey, she must be stupid or must have nothing
else to offer', which maybe is the case many times. But then again
there is the one that is as smart as her breasts look, great as her
face looks, beautiful as her whole body looks gorgeous, you know,
so people are shocked."

I'm inclined to agree with Clive James' description of Aaahhnnuld
as looking like 'a condom stuffed full of walnuts'.

TYY :7

On Edit: Clive Davis changed to Clive James.

14. Uhm, I think Molly Ivins said this:

Great quote, so, credit where credit is due.

15. I know Molly Ivins 'borrowed' it recently . . .
Edited on Tue Sep-09-03 08:22 PM by TeeYiYi
. . . but I'm pretty sure Clive James was the originator.

16. The only quote I could find
was from Clive James, not Clive Davis -- perhaps that's who you meant? Who, it appears, did say it first.

17. I have a hard time believing
that the Dixie Chicks know anymore about politics than AS, and they probably know even less about AS. There opinion in world affairs is minimal. If they want AS to sit out, they should sit out also.

20. Gee, I don't recall them
running for any political office.

Last time I checked, they're free to speak up. So is Arnold. But that doesn't make him a great candidate.

He IS running, by the way.

19. Here's the weird thing--we have celeb-dis-celeb
sort of, not that the Dixie Chicks have quite Ahhhnold level of celebrity. But the Repubs have always done their "Don't listen to stooopid celebrity people like Barbara Streisand or whoever--just because somebody is rich and famous doesn't mean they know what they're talking about" routine, and slammed your Woody Harrelsons (Search his commentary on a few subjects like the War on Some Drugs and the current restrictions on free speech, and you'll find him articulate and informed...he ain't Woody from "Cheers") and Janeane Garofalos (sometimes a comedienne isn't just a joker, if she feels deeply about what she speaks of). Why, what does Robert Redford, or Ted for crying out loud Danson, know about the environment?

Silly, isn't it? In conservative-world, maybe.

But If Arnold Schwarzenegger wants to be a very well-funded Republican for the state of California...well...let the actor speak! If the money he can bring to bomb movies be brought to bomb legislation...if he can court lobbyists who write good checks...why...bring him on! He's a HumVee celeb...not a namby-pamby limosine lib!

Feh! Give me Robbins and Sarandon (anyone ever see "Bob Robertson"? Was that like the most politically conscious movie, or am I deep in the bourbon again? Okay, okay, or both?) instead. Give me Paul Newman (also old enough to be my dad...but...um...a girl has her *likes*...)

But why for *Governor* of California? If entertainers shouldn't be trusted to talk about their pet topics...why run for office, where more things are at stake?
