Top Interior official resigns from Bush administration
A top Interior Department official whose handling of the Indian trust tainted his controversial tenure in Washington, D.C., announced his resignation on Tuesday.

After three years as the department's deputy secretary, the number two position, J. Steven Griles told President Bush that it was "a great honor" to serve within the Bush administration. He said he plans to leave by the end of January 2005 or sooner, if a replacement is confirmed by the Senate.

In a letter, Interior Secretary Gale Norton praised her deputy's tenure, singling out his "exemplary" efforts to improve the management of billions of dollars of Indian trust assets and 54 million acres of trust land. "I know that the frustrations of Indian trust litigation have taken a toll on you and the other dedicated employees who labored countless evenings and weekends with you," she wrote.

Controversial Interior deputy leaving post

Wednesday, December 08, 2004 -

Washington - J. Steven Griles, the Interior Department's controversial deputy secretary who favored aggressive energy development in the West and became the subject of an ethics probe, submitted his resignation Tuesday.

A former energy industry lobbyist, Griles underscored in his letter to President Bush his philosophy of considering business interests when regulating use of 507 million acres of national parkland.

"It has been a great honor to serve within your Administration, which recognizes that for conservation efforts to be successful the government must involve the people who live and work on the land," Griles wrote.

Interior Secretary Gale Norton said in a statement Griles had helped transform "federal relations with the West from antagonism to cooperative conservation."

3. When I see "Bush" and "Interior official", I think that it must mean
the little feller inside, steering him, making his eyes blink and his lips move.
I just can't help it. :eyes:

I saw 'Top Interior official resigns' and thought Gale Norton was gone. The day the female version of James Watt, (sans the dopey glasses) leaves can not come soon enough.

5. Norton is only a mouthpiece
of corporate globalism. She could disappear and let W do the talking. Why doesn't she just resign and save us some bucks. Oh, I forgot, she is one of the elitists. She wants to keep taking our tax $ while serving corporate globalists.
