Marines hunt down Fallujah's strays to head off rabies threat
Edited on Thu Dec-09-04 11:14 PM by maddezmom
~snip~
But this time the marines are not chasing down the insurgents who they defeated in a devastating assault on the city last month. Their quarry is stray animals grown fat on the flesh from corpses and who could harbor rabies.

~snip~
Medical personnel say rabies is one of the biggest threats to people returning to the city. Cases of the disease were already reported in humans in Al-Anbar province before the Fallujah attack.

"Rabies, and standing water, are our most immediate concerns," said Captain Dennis Staggs, a surgeon with the 1st Marine Exepditionary Force (MEF), adding that among a host of measures suggested to head off a health crisis, medical officers said feral animals should be cleared from the city.

(Medact)Charity blames invaders for Iraq 'health disaster'

~snip~
Medact reported that the health of Iraq's people had deteriorated since the 2003 invasion, both as a direct result of violence and through the collapse of medical facilities, public health provision and essential infrastructure such as water supplies. The report specifically blamed the tactics of the US-led occupying forces for exacerbating the country's health problems, particularly the decision to sideline the UN, which has traditionally handled humanitarian relief efforts.

~snip~

Medact said Iraq had also experienced an alarming recurrence of previously well-controlled communicable diseases, including acute respiratory infections, diarrhoea and typhoid, particularly among children, the report said.

One in four people in Iraq were now dependent on food aid, and there were more children underweight or chronically malnourished than in 2000, the report found. The near disappearance of immunisation programmes had contributed to the recurrence of death and illness from preventable disease, and infant mortality rose due to a lack of access to skilled help in childbirth, as well as to violence.

~snip~
Medact called for funding to rebuild an Iraqi health system that is free at the point of delivery and based on primary health care principles. The charity also said the occupying forces should be required to monitor casualties and civilian protection, re-evaluate the impact of weaponry in populated areas, comply with the Geneva Conventions, and ensure health services are accessible to civilians in conflict areas.

1. Are there any confirmed Us/allies deaths coming out of Fallujah?
I have read multiple Iraqi sites that state a much different scenario where the marines would be WAY too busy for this task. Does anyone have any links to who died and where?

Sorry if this seems morbid. It is the subject matter, not my intent.

How were people sleeping in their beds a threat to the United States of America?

10. They'd cheer
This is collective punishment, that's all. Payback for defying the great American empire. The more the Iraqis suffer, they more they are humiliated, the more they are made to suffer, the more the Bush supporters like it. That's what they voted for Bush to do.

8.  Rats and mice feed equally well and
Edited on Fri Dec-10-04 02:27 AM by crappy diem
spread many more diseases than rabid dogs.
I think dogs' average gestation period is
63 days or so. Rats and mice are a matter
of weeks.

Does anyone know if they have military exterminators
with traps and D-Con for the Warfarin resistent?

Hmmm... chickens, emus etc that are not being feed
poultry feed. I think goats will eat anything also.

Cows, sheep and horses probably not?

Edited on Fri Dec-10-04 04:53 AM by neweurope
there is to it. And you're right, rats and the diseases they carry are a much, much bigger danger in a situation like that.

They make it sound as if it was an established fact that rabies flourishes under those circumstances (Bullshit). And everybody must surely be scared of rabid dogs.... they really are masters of propaganda.

24.  Red Cross waiting US forces to give go-ahead restore city's water supply
Edited on Sat Dec-11-04 09:55 AM by jmcgowanjm
The Red Cross could not confirm whether the warehouse
had refrigeration facilities. ( I can confirm that there is
no
AC in Fallujah and why are we not getting info
from
Red Crescent instead of Red Cross?)

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/4085109.stm

Reports that US has been shooting dogs/cats from day1.

Last IRR has US abandoning everything but
North Fallujah.
