Who Aided (9/11) Hijackers Still a Mystery
FBI Disputes Findings Of Congressional Inquiry

Wednesday, September 10, 2003; Page A01

Two years after al Qaeda terrorists slammed jetliners into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, FBI and congressional investigators remain deeply divided over whether the 19 hijackers received help from other al Qaeda operatives inside the United States and still are unable to answer some of the central questions in the case.

The uncertainties persist despite the largest FBI investigation in U.S. history -- which has included 180,000 interviews and 7,000 agents -- and raise the possibility that Americans will never know precisely how the conspirators were able to pull off the most devastating terrorist attacks in U.S. history.

"We know quite a bit about the attacks," FBI counterterrorism chief Larry Mefford said last week. "Unfortunately, we don't know everything."

Some of the doubts surround intriguing details: Investigators still have no firm grasp on why the hijacker pilots booked layovers in Las Vegas during apparent practice runs on commercial airliners in 2001. Authorities also have found no definitive explanation for why ringleader Mohamed Atta and another hijacker, Abdulaziz Alomari, began their suicidal journey on Sept. 11, 2001, with a seemingly risky commuter flight from Portland, Maine, to Boston -- coming within minutes of missing their flights out of both cities. And what exactly was discussed at a pivotal meeting in Kuala Lumpur in January 2000, where investigators believe -- but cannot prove -- that the Sept. 11 plot was put in motion?

3. When Does One Look
Further?

If the immediate catch him shoot him response is not working, then when is an inquiry going to dig deeper?

Why should one want it to happen?

How does one deal with the wish for it to occur?

Does one keep discussing how many angels can dance on the head of a pin?

Or does one look to see how not to have it occur again.
We all have belly buttons.

8. Aha!
So that deer-caught-in-the-headlights look * had while at Booker Elementary, and his response of, "That must be one bad pilot!", was really all about his worries of wondering if his broker had taken care of those put options he had on United Airlines.

Aha!

13.  The money trail leads to the PNAC
The White House is covering up the money trail. The money made off those "option trades" would lead right to people who knew about 9/11 in advance.

Since the Bush White House has kept so quiet about this, it leads me to suspect that they were in on it. The money trail, which they don't want us to investigate, probably leads to off-shore Bush bank accounts.

The Germans have three books out on 9/11, all blaming Bush, but American book stores will probably only sell the Right-Wing think-tank book, pushed on C-SPAN for an hour yesterday, which, of course blames Clinton.

7. can you say ... whitewash?
Not only is the Bush administration whitewashing things, but so are articles like this one. Compare the conclusion in this article that none of the hijacker's associates knew of the plot with this section of a recent Newsweek article:

One intriguing figure identified by title, but not by name, in the classified version of the report is a San Diego imam who acted as a “spiritual advisor” to Alhazmi and Almihdhar. The FBI had investigated the cleric, Anwar Aulaqi, once before, suspecting he had ties with terrorists who had tried to blow up New York landmarks in the ’90s. But the Feds dropped the probe. The bureau later discovered that Aulaqi moved to Falls Church, Va., at about the same time as Alhazmi and another of the hijackers, Hani Hanjour. Aulaqi later left for England; the bureau has yet to charge him with any crime.

Aulaqi is still well remembered back in San Diego. Lincoln Higgie, an antiques dealer who lived across the street from the mosque where Aulaqi used to lead prayer, told NEWSWEEK that he distinctly recalls the imam knocking on his door in the first week of August 2001 to tell him he was leaving for Kuwait. “He came over before he left and told me that something very big was going to happen, and that he had to be out of the country when it happened,” recalls Higgie. If only the FBI had sources like that.

---

Someone needs to give the folks at the W. Post a subscription to Newsweek, and explain to them that "research" means more than just "well I asked some White House official, and since they said it it must be true."

Even the Newsweek probably found that out in a few minutes by making a few phone calls. Imagine what a real, in-depth investigation might find out! For instance, where is this imam Aulaqi now? Why does the FBI say he's innocent when even the most cursory Newsweek reporting says otherwise? What a pathetic cover up!

<The report notes suspicions by FBI agents that the "meeting at the restaurant may not have been accidental," and an FBI written response to the inquiry refers to the encounter as a "somewhat suspicious meeting with the hijackers.">

It may not have been accidental!!!!!!!!!!!!!But they stopped at the Butcher shop first. I can't stop laughing. If the man on the street were caught visiting the Saudi Consulate and then meeting with known terrorists and then subsequently arranging for their housing and movement would the FBI be trying to prove their innocence? The inspector general for all the criticism she has received is well aware that this is complete bullshit.

The risky trip to Logan is questionable. Unless you have private airport security people staffed by Israeli intelligence greasing the skids for you.

11. Investigation.....what investigation....we can start w/the 28 pages....WTF
There is no serious investigation that will go anywhere. This is clearly a "taboo" subject.

Thank God...a trial to sue the airlines ... and a "discovery process" can take place in the court of law.

The airlines can start with how did the hi-jacker names NOT appear on the passenger list.... or if it were fake id's used...how did the govt present photo/id's of these same passengers 24's later.

Start there.....and then address the 28 page mystery

12. It appears that the Congressional report is being undermined
and the Patriot Act is being defended.

Still too many unswered questions in this shadowy administration.

14. Too bad the government let all the members
of bin Laden's family fly out of the country before the FBI could even question them. These family members should have been put in protective custody and questioned has material witnesses. But no, W was more concerned with making sure they were safely back in Saudi, where we would no longer have access to them.

Maybe they should just quit wasting time and start the investigation at the top, the WH and then work their way down.
