UK Christian Protesters Seek to Prosecute Gay Play
LONDON (Reuters) - A group of Christian protesters in Scotland has called on police to prosecute a theater company for blasphemy because it is putting on a play about a gay Jesus.

``If there is a blasphemy like this, Christians have to stand up,'' said Stephen Green of Christian Voice who protested outside a theater showing Terence McNally's controversial play ``Corpus Christi'' at St Andrews University.

``Jesus Christ is being portrayed here as a foul-mouthed, drunken, promiscuous homosexual and that is an insult to my faith,'' Green told BBC Radio.

But the play's director, Zsuzsi Lyndsay, defended the production: ``He is not portrayed as a drunken foulmouth. He doesn't say one bad word throughout the play.''

4. I don't know much about UK law
Can you really prosecute someone over there for "blasphemy?"

5. Isn't the Church of England still the State church?
I'm not sure, but, if so, then there could be countless religious criminal offenses that would be outlandish to thost outside the UK.

Dunno...

"The law was last used in the UK against Gay News in 1977 when Mary Whitehouse brought a private prosecution against the paper for publishing James Kirkup's poem The Love That Dares To Speak its Name. The poem, which described homosexual acts between "a well-hung" Jesus and a Roman centurion, was judged "blasphemous"."

BBC Q & A on Blasphemy Law

Note that it was a private prosecution, ie the public authorities didn't think it was worth prosecuting. Whitehouse was an interfering good-for-nothing old ratbag (see the lyrics to Pink Floyd's "Pigs (Three Different Ones)" for details), who spent her time complaining about the amount of swearing on the TV and so on.

The play was put on 5 years ago in the UK, and there was no action then:

Similarly, last week's London première of Corpus Christi, in which Jesus is portrayed as a homosexual, resulted in a death fatwa being pronounced on the play's author, Terence McNally by a Muslim Shari'ah Court of the UK.

While lay Christians protested outside the Pleasance Theatre to register their disgust, any official rebuke was conspicuous by its absence.

7. "UK Christian Protesters Seek to Prosecute Gay Play"
Britain has adopted criminal legislation against race-based verbal assaults, and is now considering similar legislation against religious "hate" verbage.

Given the degree of perceptible "hate" factor in this case, it clearly falls into line with their laws to demand police restraint, regardless of what the heterosexual, bank-robbing, boot-licking, weiner-grabbing, chicken choking, blood-drinking director of the play says.

The above was an example of "ironicality".

Just like in the Bible, it all makes sense when you take it in context.

Merry Christmas, and H-A-A-A-A-PY New Year!
