Madrassas hit by sex abuse claims

By Paul Anderson
BBC News, Islamabad

A Pakistani minister has revealed hundreds of cases of alleged child sex abuse at Islamic schools, or madrassas.

There were 500 complaints this year of abuse allegedly committed by clerics, Aamer Liaquat Hussain, a minister in the religious affairs department, said.

That compares with 2,000 last year, but as yet there have been no successful prosecutions, Mr Hussain told the BBC.

The minister's revelations have sparked death threats and infuriated some religious political leaders.

2. Of course they couldn't prosecute
Why would the victims come forward when they'd get stoned to death for "inciting" the perps to rape them?

4. Institutional religion is authoritarian.
(How can you argue with GOD?)

Hence, it naturally attracts control freaks and the insecure,
seekers of "certainty", and those with a penchant for bullying.

Religion as a personal means of relating and undrstanding our place
in existence is another thing entirely. One must separate institutional
religion from the spiritual quest we all share in different ways.

6. sadly, yes - I wouldn't let my boys be in the Boys Club or any sumsuch

organized sports (outside of school).

they had much more fun gathering neighbor kids for pick-up sport games, and I didn't have to worry about less then wonderful adult managers.

7. Well.. should that be any surprise?
Male dominated society, with extreme difficulty for young men to have any contact with females(who are covered head-to-toe and hidden behind walled fortresses?

"schools" run by older men who are religious zealots, and can "do no wrong" in the eyes of the tenets they "teach".

Sounds like a recipe for sexual domination of the younger "students"..

and an additional "reason" that so many of them turn out so twisted :(
