2. i give a shit about the marines.
i don't like them being abused like this. this war was unnecessary, these deaths are unnecessary. they are just obeying orders under criminal leadership.

it's the citizen's responsibility to be the voice for these troops to make sure they aren't abused. it is a civilian led military, y'know, so it's our responsibility to keep our civil servants under control. right now way too many of us are abdicating our responsibility for the sake of comfort and entertainment.

They are human beings. I don't like hearing about the death of any human so Bush and his friends in the oil and defense industry can get richer.

5. You better give a shit
My nephew is one of that group. Hopefully, he's OK. He was one of the first Marine units into Fallujah in their re-entry. He picked up the remnants of one of his marine buddies.

Somebody better care enough to get our kids out of there. He's 18, for God's sake. Doing what he thought was right by believing Bush and thinking he was serving our country.

Two US Marines killed in Iraq

Two US Marines have been killed in Iraq's Baghdad province.

The deaths followed the killing of eight Marines over the weekend in the restive western Al-Anbar province.

Seven people died in a Baghdad suicide attack on Monday and 19 more were wounded, many seriously, when a car bomb exploded at a checkpoint outside the highly fortified Green Zone.

Two mortar rounds also landed in the frequently targeted Green Zone, which houses Iraq's Interim Government and foreign embassies, including the US mission.

13. In my state they put 15 year olds in adult court
Edited on Tue Dec-14-04 06:46 AM by saigon68
When they do serious crimes. (These "children" end up with life sentences in adult prisons) Hell in Texas they execute 16 year old murderers.

I am really tired of hearing how johnny is only a child and not responsible for blasting some Iraqi woman and her baby to bits with his machine gun, because he "didn't know what he was getting into"

They should instead of issuing grenade launchers and machine guns, make them use their pacifiers and their Sgt Nannies can rock them to sleep in their bassinets.

Sorry these "Children" will kill you in a new york minute if you look cross eyed at them.

18. Sending children to die and be killed is the crime
Most of these kids did not expect to be sent into hand to hand combat in cities- yeah they knew there was a risk, but they didn't sign up of this. And theoretical risk is very different from real risk.

These people of you don't want to call them kids, haven't got the life experience to really understand what they're in for. Did the kids in Vietnam? That's the worst part about war- it is dehumanizing. The people who come back, they're wounded forever, even if they escape totally intact physically.

They have to kill people. It is not something I think the large majority of them relish or enjoy. You are very callous and insensitive. I bet you could kill in a "New York Minute" too.

25. it is a metaphor enhancing a rhetorical exclamation.
basically it is calling people so young unaware and innocent of the full bore of this madness. sure they may understand an aspect or two, but unlike what the writer is suggesting, they don't understand the full ramifications of what they do, they aren't prepared for the nightmare they've dived into. so, in his/her eyes, they are but children, so young in comparison to the years of wisdom accumulated by those who've seen madness like this before.

american english does a real disservice in being overly direct and concrete. such wonderful verbal painting of emotional passion and vivid description through rhetorical and allegorical tools is woefully denied by our manner of speech. far too often what should be easily understood by context (aka. exaggeration, 2nd person, rhetorical, dissimilar imagery, conflicting sensory description, etc) causes a needless misunderstanding. the whole world speaks so vividly and elaborately, relying on the listener that they are capable of understanding complex linguistic tools, except america -- it's kinda sad, actually.

like i said before, americans aren't so good dealing with nuance and subtlety.

29. which makes it all the more tragic, doesn't it?
war, like other crises, forces most to grow up real fast and challenges all of what they are. unlike other crises, there just isn't a more cataclysmic way to learn such things.

be the 'child' willing or not, that still doesn't prevent a pang of compassion from those who know an inkling of the hell these 'children' will endure. you can feel sorrow for blindness/unawareness and lament the harshness of the lesson.

yes, the military does love these children, as an abstract institution, yes. because they become functionary pawns, killing machines without sense. but generals (and hopefully other leaders), develop a real love and care for their "men/boys," as we so often hear them affectionately called, and do not like it when their charges are abused. oh the poetry that has been written of generals throughout the ages crying, watching their "men/boys" being slaughtered needlessly -- tears your heart out. something sick developed when the emphasis switched from generals on the warfield caring for their troops to bureaucratic military institutions, like the pentagon, caring only about paper pushing, PR spinning, and politicking.

Except maybe the GOP.

This is what got us over there. All Arabs are terrorists!

Come on. Many good hearted kids are over there with honorable intentions. I am sure many have learned lifetime lessons.

And some will react to the horrors of war by turning into monsters, same as it ever was.

Ê
People of the world! These words come to you from those who up to the day of the invasion were struggling to survive under the sanctions imposed by the criminal regimes of the U.S. and Britain .
Ê
We are simple people who chose principles over fear.
Ê
We have suffered crimes and sanctions, which we consider the true weapons of mass destruction.
Ê
Years and years of agony and despair, while the condemned UN traded with our oil revenues in the name of world stability and peace.
Ê
Over two million innocents died waiting for a light at the end of a tunnel that only ended with the occupation of our country and the theft of our resources.
Ê
After the crimes of the administrations of the U.S and Britain in Iraq , we have chosen our future. The future of every resistance struggle ever in the history of man.
Ê
It is our duty, as well as our right, to fight back the occupying forces, which their nations will be held morally and economically responsible; for what their elected governments have destroyed and stolen from our land.
Ê
We have not crossed the oceans and seas to occupy Britain or the U.S. nor are we responsible for 9/11. These are only a few of the lies that these criminals present to cover their true plans for the control of the energy resources of the world, in face of a growing China and a strong unified Europe . It is Ironic that the Iraqi's are to bear the full face of this large and growing conflict on behalf of the rest of this sleeping world.
Ê
We thank all those, including those of Britain and the U.S. , who took to the streets in protest against this war and against Globalism. We also thank France , Germany and other states for their position, which least to say are considered wise and balanced, til now.

36. a fifth massive convoy carrying 325 Abram Tanks was seen leaving Baghdad
Edited on Wed Dec-15-04 10:04 AM by jmcgowanjm
a further fifth massive convoy carrying 325 Abram Tanks
was seen leaving Baghdad and heading for Falluja. This
convoy was subject to an attack near the area of ‘Kurma’ to
the north of Falluja which resulted in the burning of 8
gasoline tankers and 6 Tank transport vehicles (each
transport carries 2 tanks). The attack was able to claim 23
US casualties.

http://uruknet.info/

Anyone seen any film from Fallujah lately?

Abu Asaad Dulaimy, the spokesman for the Islamic
Resistance in Falluja claimed that 350 US marines had
been killed in the fighting over the last 3 days in and
around Falluja. Dulaimy also reported that 82
Resistance Fighters had been martyred in the fighting, but
that God has graciously replaced them with 5 times that
number in fresh reinforcements coming into the
city.

Sounds like Grozny January 2000
