Military Will March Front and Center at Inaugural Festivities
WASHINGTON — As he leaves the Capitol after taking the oath of office Jan. 20, President Bush (news - web sites) is expected to exercise a familiar presidential prerogative — reviewing the troops.

Then the real embrace of the military begins.

Bush, who campaigned for reelection as a wartime president, will have more than the usual military flourishes at his second-term inaugural ceremonies.

With 138,000 U.S. troops serving in Iraq (news - web sites) and casualties reported nearly every day, the White House wanted to showcase the role of the armed services in the war against terrorism as well as in the nation's premier display of a peaceful transition of power.

Officials are tight-lipped about details, awaiting a briefing this week from the Presidential Inaugural Committee. But the military theme will thread through the 10 days of inaugural events that are normally highlighted by pomp and circumstance, a time when the nation's capital turns into a lavish backdrop for the revelry of the winning party.

I researched something on The Florida OJ Assoc. because they say "drinking FL OJ, helps rebuild Florida" - I called an asked to explain the TV commercial running. Turns out that drinking FL OJ helps the famailies of the FL OJ Association only.

The stories about the new OJ campaign was written in many papers, all saying verbatim the official press release.

11. Not quite springtime, but so very apt
Chorus:
Germany was having trouble,
What a sad, sad story!
Needed a new leader to restore its former glory!
Where oh where was he?
Where could that man be?
We looked around
And then we found
A man for you and me!

And now it’s…

Hitler:
Springtime for Hitler and Germany!
Deutschland is happy and gay!

Chorus:
We’re marching to a faster pace
Look out – here comes the master race!

Springtime for Hitler and Germany!

Hitler:
Winter for Poland and France!

Chorus:
Springtime for Hitler and Germany!
Now, Germans, go into your dance!

Rolf:
I was born in Düsseldorf and that is why they call me Rolf!

Mel Brooks:
Don’t be stupid, be a smarty –
Come and join the Nazi party!

(instrumental interlude)

Chorus:
Springtime for Hitler and Germany!
(gunshots)
Two-step’s the new step today!
(gunshots, explosions)
Bombs falling from the skies again!
(bomb falling, explosion)
Deutschland is on the rise again!

Springtime for Hitler and Germany!
U-boats are sailing once more!

Springtime for Hitler and Germany!

Means that...
Soon we’ll be goin’,
We’ve got to be goin’,
You know we’ll be goin’
To war!

38. The White Rose Society-US Edition
From a friend in the Pentagon
This Coronation will be the most surreal thing the US
has ever witnessed.

August 23, 2001: According to German newspapers,
the
Mossad gave the CIA a list of 19 terrorists living in the
US
and said that it appeared that they were planning to carry
out
an attack in the near future. It is unknown if these are
the
same exact 19 names as the actual hijackers or if the
number
is a coincidence. However, at least four names did refer
to
actual 9/11 hijackers: Nawaf Alhazmi, Khalid Almihdhar,
Marwan Alshehhi, and Mohamed Atta. Die Zeit, 10/1/02,

22. The Germans did it in the bad old days
http://www.holocaustchronicle.org/HolocaustScans/HiRes/1940/19400008000027

Celebrating their victory in France, German troops march down the Champs-Élysées through the Arc de Triomphe. The armistice signed in June divided France into two areas. One part was occupied by the Germans and placed under military control, while the other was indirectly controlled by the Germans through the government of Marshal Pétain. The latter was headquartered in Vichy in the south of France. Half of the roughly 350,000 Jews in France lived in Paris and were immediately threatened by the Nazis' occupation. The Vichy government, too, moved to segregate Jews from French society, promulgating the Statut des Juifs (Jewish Law), which conformed to the German Nuremberg Laws.

Bastille Day is a lawful and understandable celebration for such military pomp and circumstance. The inauguration of a president in the U.S. runs contrary to historical American sensibilities. 41. "dances on the graves of his victims"
Now that Gary Webb joins Mark Lombardi, J.H. Hatfield,
and Danny Casalaro as the fourth 'suicide' by a researcher
who had a detailed understanding of the structure and
function of the Bush crime family, the math on the odds of
the Bush suicides have changed.

"Examining the male U.S.suicide rate for recent years , we
can extrapolate a conservative estimate of 17 male suicides
per 100,000 people, or 0.017%. The odds of 4 specific,
male biographers committing suicide would be the 4th power
of 17/100000, or 8.3521 4.913 x 10^-17...roughly 1
chance 10,000,000,000,000,000. About as good a definition
of impossible as you can
get.

But no, the money for OUR EXECUTIVE officer's big party is private.

Check out the inaugural site... you just have to request them from your state senator.

The site's disgustingly pompous, but if we could get a bunch of people inside the more power we would have.

It would be great to have some DUers in there. I'm already arranging to go to DC.

On the other hand, it wouldn't be much of a protest. You can't even bring in posters.

between the press and the administration has been destroyed, making it possible for photographs of the parade to be released in advance.

Start your tour here.

The first couple

A bountiful array of consumer goods. Darn, all sold out.

Smite the evil DUers!

Enough chit chit; bring on the parade.

47. I was about to say, did I wake up in Soviet Russia?
Edited on Tue Dec-14-04 01:12 PM by Kitsune
Took the words right out of my mouth.

And I think it's clear I JUST woke up, given that I can't even post to the right place. *grumblegrumble*

Or has the DoD finally changed the color to red, white and blue to avoid confusion with the care packages?

78. HEY! As an Honest, Progressive Socialist, I resent that!
Try "The Hymn of the Soviet Union." NO good Stalinist would object to that, and the USSR isn't using it lately.

Let's give him a FULL MOON with a bit of crack in respect of his father's contribution to our country.

61. Victoria Clarke: "Even people who adamantly oppose the war
respect what people in uniform are doing."

That's me, Vicky! Though I adamantly oppose the war I respect the way our men and women in uniform are illegally invading foreign countries and killing the ragheads, abusing prisoners, and taking no prisoners! (Um...is that what you meant?)

62. Condi Rice can finally put her Kremlinology skills to good use
After the military parades are over, she can pore over the photos, to try to figure out which Bush sycophant is on the ascendant and which is out of favor.

Condi: "Hey look, that's me in the back...oh, oh."

Committee currently, so it would seem that it always has some military element. TR had his Rough Riders from Spanish-American war march in the parade.

Who are responsible for burials at Arlington cemetery -- got to keep them in the States to keep up with the flow of dead from Iraq.

86. They're in Kuwait, I think.
At least a substantial portion of them. Parts of the Old Guard were deployed to the middle east several months ago, although I think not to Iraq--possibly Kuwait or Dubai.

Worse, the "aggressor" training units were scooped up and shipped out as well. Who's training the out-of-shape, underequipped reservists and Guard unit now? anyone's guess, I suspect.

:grr:

80. 4000 combat forces! Cops every 6 feet!
New and stronger barricades! (Against the terrorists, to be sure). New screening technology for inaugural guests! For representatives of other countries that's an insult but unfortunately I'm sure none of them will protest. And with your tax money you have to pay for it all.

Yes, be careful.

82. I want as much protest pics and video on the net
I was pleasantly suprised to see the protest footage from 2000 on F9/11. I never knew because the news didn't report on it. The only thing that will get me through that horrible day is knowing that people like me are in DC protesting.

83. Will the TANKS roll in the PARADE?
The TANKS showed up recently at the protest at the Federal Bldg, in L.A.(Westwood)
as a show of strength to those who oppose.

ANYONE KNOW?
Will there be any PROTEST at the so called "innauguration"?

What about the several C'mmander in Cheef "balls" afterwards.
Do ya think the amputees will be there dancing around in adoration of their "C'mmander in CHeef"?

That AWOL SOB has the nerve?
WE ARE NOW IN NAZI AMERIKA.
THE 4th REICH.
Can something be done to stop this?
This is a serious as it gets.
The survival of the World is at stake.
Nuking Iran NEXT.
Who in this country is willing to put down this coup de etat?
Patriot act provides for jaiingl any opposition and the "trouble makers" will never be heard from again.

Do we just sit back now and watch the Destruction on Fox and CNN?.

91. I Googled for images of Inauguration Parades....
The Old Guard has appeared--but they are locally based. Except they've been sent overseas....

Otherwise, the Aggie (Texas A&M) Band was about the most military-looking group to be seen; the marched in his previous parade.
