U.S. Trade Deficit Swells to Record $55.5B
Story

Snip:
America's trade deficit swelled to an all-time high of $55.5 billion in October as imports — including those from China — surged to the loftiest levels on record. Skyrocketing crude-oil prices also contributed to the yawning trade gap.

2. As usual, no one will care until it affects them
and that applies to everything from the unPATRIOTic Act to the trade defecit, IMO.

I call it the 'idiot light' culture, named after the lights on cars that come on AFTER a critical problem exists, rather than before.

3. But that's okay, the falling dollar will convince more foreigners to fly
on over to the Maul of America and pick up some great deals, not realizing that little ol' Rosedale just 15 miles away has lower prices all 'round. :eyes:

7. Deficit no Imbalance yes
The trade deficit is the difference between American stuff sold in the world and stuff Americans buy in the world. Who cares?

What we need is an economy that provides good jobs so Americans can buy stuff American and foreign. We need high tech jobs that pay good wages.

Devaluing the dollar to improve the trade balance is folly. We should keep the dollar strong and pay off our real debt, which is a deficit in funds.

The world is financing our spending and will have to be paid back with interest.

Trade deficit = smokescreen
