Protests against Saudi monarchy planned
This has the potential to get interesting.

Saad al-Faqih told Aljazeera.net on Tuesday that his radio stations – that reach over two thirds of the Saudi population - have been preparing for the demonstrations for over six weeks.

"The Saudi regime is unreformable. This event will involve a series of civil activities whose purpose is clear – to remove the current regime," al-Faqih told Aljazeera.net.

While privately expecting hundreds of thousands, the London-based exile said the peaceful demonstrations would begin after noon prayers on Thursday – in defiance of an official ban.

Police broke up a much smaller street protest in Riyadh organised by al-Faqih's Movement for Islamic Reform (MIRA) last year to call for the release of political prisoners and greater political participation. Authorities arrested 33 people but they were later released.

2. bet the House of Saud won't last
can't find my links just now but the consensus is that the House of Saud is in terminal decline. The issue for the west is what replaces it. I suppose the US could use geopolitical strategy to plant a friendly regime to ensure continued access to the strategic oil reserve. However, there is, apparently, growing unrest amongst younger men over there...methinks this could, as bemildred says, get mighty interesting.

3. Something else I read somewhere
The Saudi royal family, which are hundreds of members, have been getting passports to different countries for several months now.

They know the end is in sight and will be ready to bail.

4. The Saudi Royal Family makes me sick. These are some twisted
people. They way they treat their citizens is beyond belief. Of course, the Chimp is well on his way to follow suit! We'll all be beheaded if we dare question Bushitler!

7. interesting indeed.........
How many of us have sufficient land to support the horse we'll need to replace our cars? (Oh, and enough trees to burn to keep warm in the winter, and room to grow all the food we need that won't be able to make it to market anymore?)

9. Yep. I've been thinking that hunter-gatherer tribes,
those that are left, could get very high consulting fees for
helping clueless yuppies learn how to hunt and gather.
