CNN - Snow: Bush will trim U.S. spending
Snow: Bush will trim U.S. spending
Monday, December 20, 2004 Posted: 1:11 AM EST (0611 GMT)

Snow told CNN's Wolf Blitzer there would be cuts in many budget programs.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- U.S. President George W. Bush plans to cut spending in his upcoming budget, not just trim the rate of growth in government outlays, Treasury Secretary John Snow said Sunday.

(snip)

The Bush administration blames the recession of early 2001, the al Qaeda attacks on New York and Washington and the costs of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan for the deficits, which followed budget surpluses in 2000 and 2001.

In addition, Bush lobbied Congress to enact an estimated $1.6 trillion in tax cuts over 10 years. The administration argues that those cuts have stimulated economic growth, and Bush wants to make those permanent in a second term.

(snip)

Snow repeated Bush's warning that, if left unchanged, the Social Security program faces a $10.4 trillion deficit -- a figure based on a 75-year projection by the system's trustees.

4. HA!
In other words, we aren't changing a thing - boosting Iraq funding while cutting homeland programs.

Iraq is already over $100 Billion with projections around $200 Billion-plus through 2005.

*SIGH*

9. Including the NSF!!!
The National Science Found. is going to lose several percent of its budget this year. Yes, in order to keep his buddies surrounded by their millions, Bush will shaft the US's future technological and scientific innovation. The NSF has been limping along for years.

10. No he's not-this is more fake Repub infighting
W is going to try to paint the whole thing as Congress's fault (that message has already gotten to the Fox news viewers) and nothing will change and W won't veto anything.

11. What's with the "Silence of the Dems?"
Where are the Dems on Bush's hypocritical budget gutting?

Where's the outrage? It's not hard to attack Bush's crazy making!

Why aren't the Dems screaming,

"Ohhhhhh...really now, Mr President! First, you balloon the deficit to unprecedented levels and now you wanna play 'Hi I'm Mr Thrifty' with the poor and the middle class? Funding a reckless, multi-billion-dollar war and granting millionaires lavish tax breaks---as you prepare to slash student loans and social programs for the poor---is an UnAmerican crock! Can you explain, Mr. President how you reconcile your 'Christian values' with fiscal policy that pummels the poor and the homeless and turns over windfall profits to those who own mansions and luxury yachts? Listen, you sadistic elitist--if you want to play social engineer, with your policies that weaken the middle class and further disenfranchise the poor--you're in for a battle of epic proportions! Think Braveheart, you maniacal freak!"

Please! Democratic leaders--say something! Anything!

Your are 100% right! I agree with you! Why don't the elected Democrats in Congress say SOMETHING or better yet, DO SOMETHING?

These tax cuts to the rich need to stop NOW!
