US push for Sunni seats rejected (Aljazeera)
Edited on Sun Dec-26-04 06:37 PM by madison2000
http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/C5ABB0EF-3402-4E1C-95BA-B889CEE99623.htm

Sunday 26 December 2004, 19:22 Makka Time, 16:22 GMT

Iraq's Independent Election Commission has emphatically rejected US calls for fixed Sunni Arab seats in the legislature, said a commission official. The election body has rejected a move by Washington to adjust the results of next month's vote to benefit the Sunni community.

Speaking of "unacceptable" interference, Electoral Commission spokesman Farid Ayar said: "Who wins, wins. That is the way it is. That is the way it will be in the election." Ayar was emphatic in dismissing such a possibility, and suggested US officials were trying to interfere.

"Maybe they didn't read the rules and regulations of the commission ... The Americans are expressing their views and those aren't always the same as the commission's. But the commission is absolutely independent.

"It is not acceptable for anyone to interfere in our business. That will not be allowed to happen," he said.

1. What a tool
Maybe they didn't read the rules and regulations of the commission

Maybe you didn't read the rules and regulations of the commission, buddy. Things are going to happen exactly as Perle & Co. have planned it for you, that's what the new world order small print says.

If the US can't placate the Sunni minority come January, 2005 is going to see the situation in Iraq move from "shaky" to "fucked" real fast. A 100% Shiite government with a Sunni national guard and bureaucracy is not a healthy recipe for democracy building. It'll be interesting to see if the US can push this through - if not, it's a good sign that the empire's legs are made of very brittle clay indeed.

2. I guess we should've thought about this before we "liberated" Iraq, eh?
Frankly, I am not surprised at all that things are going down this way. The sectarian civil war is inevitable, the only thing that's holding it back now is a unified opposition to the American occupation.

And should we just pull out now and let it happen?

want to spread their message of love to the Iraqis.

47. That's right, a lot of good fundies aren't able to practice their love
with Iraqis, or with Syrians, Iranians, or North Koreans. It's hard work, trying to practice your love with people who don't want your love.

commentary are anything but.

I mean why did we help Saddam out all those years? Even after he used his chemical weapons (which we very much helped him get) on innocents. Oh thats right he was fighting Iran for us... but then why Iran contra? Oh well we were happy to have them slaughtering eachother instead of good, white, straight, fundies. Well why did he invade Kuwait in the first Gulf War, because we told him we didnt care, so we let him... We fixed up satellite photos and said hey Saudis youre next on his list and they said "oh no, please help us", and we did and built the worlds largest airbase and command and control facility right in the Muslim heartland... which led to reasoning for Al Quidas stated and accomplished actions. which led to this stupid war...

Go read your history!

52. kathy,can igive you my opinion...
ms.kathy,
my belief on why america is fighting like invaders that we are in iraq is simple, oil big oil. bush and cheney thought its time to advance p-nac.we know the project for a new american century cannot be obtained without a foothold in the persian gulf, prefferably iraq..jan.01' bush tells his inner-circle,'find me a way into iraq".feb.01'condi rice holds a security counsel meeting and discusses,"plans for post saddam after military action concludes".in mar.01'cheney holds his energy task force meeting they divide iraq into 14 parcels for oil exploration.april 01'james baker,"the u.s. needs to overthrow saddam so we can control its oilfields".also in april 01'james baker talks about how "the timely advance of p-nac will likely be slow absent some catastropic and catalyizing event like a new perle harbor"unfortunately for the dead innocent victims of sept.11 P-NAC GOT THEIR EVENT.
read the "timeline to the invasion of iraq" and "timeline of terror" at www.cooperativeresearch.org. outstanding site:mad:
