Brothers Elected to Congress Head to D.C.
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/brothers_salazar

Ken and John Salazar sat on a sofa with their 82-year-old mother in the living room of the modest ranch that has been home to their family for 150 years. Four siblings and extended family members huddled under bookshelves packed with family photos, religious mementos and encyclopedias.

The brothers were dressed up and headed for a hometown celebration of their simultaneous election to Congress on Nov. 2.

As usual, festivities began at home.

"This family has been at the core of all the values that we share," said Ken Salazar, the 49-year-old state attorney general and Colorado's next senator. "They were at the core of our campaigns and the core of everything that we've done in life."

2. Al From is mentioned in the article
Edited on Sun Dec-26-04 11:27 PM by Selatius
From article:

"What Democrats ought to do is look at guys like the Salazars and how they won," said Al From, head of the centrist Democratic Leadership Council, which helped put Bill Clinton (news - web sites) on the path to the White House in 1992.

He and others say the brothers' campaigns are possible blueprints for making inroads in the West and other traditionally Republican states.
They seem to have won by using a mix of family values and a pro-worker economic message.

On edit: Aside from being pro-free trade, which would modify the "pro-worker economic message," and being pro-death penalty, I think it largely stands as far as Ken Salazar is concerned.

3. I believe that with Salazar's victory
The Democratic party should try and make inroads into the West. I believe the South is a bit of a lost cause and that the west is probably fertile soil for Dems

5. I Met John Salazar A Few Months Ago
At a Central Committee meeting in Pueblo. He's one hell of a nice guy, and I'm proud to have him as my Congressman. Much better than sufferring through Scott McPinhead all these years.

And I know Ken Salazar will be making waves in the Senate.

7. Ken's Been Good For Colorado -- We Need Him Nationally
Can't speak for John (I'm not in his District), but Ken Salazar has done an excellent job as the Attorney General here in CO. And he is one fightin' S.O.B...
