Police in Los Angeles shot a US Marine to death after he allegedly killed a transsexual prostitute, officers said.

The active-duty Marine shot the prostitute after picking her up in Hollywood believing she was a woman, the Los Angeles Times said.

since there wasn't mention of whether he had been in iraq or afghanistan....in which case it would be the anti-gay sentiment in the military combined with a likely predisposition for violence....

I don't find that in the article...in the last paragraph the article contradicts the headline.

Since a nat'l guard guy from my town (Monroe, NC) just got sentenced for killing an Iraqi soldier after consensual sex, I'd say that they need to make their case for the motive better instead of editorializing without proof. A witness saw the guy dump the body, but that's the only corroboration of anything.

The murder of prostitutes, of whatever gender, is not generally taken seriously enough, and there is some grim pleasure in seeing "rough justice" occur so quickly in such an instance.

The Marine knew he was going to get aired out by the cops if he didn't drop the weapon. Wish they could have captured and locked him up until he was old and gray for his crime. Now there is a cop out there that had to kill someone and he will have to live with that the rest of his life. No good news in this story.

None of the Marines I knew acted like that to my knowledge, but it still makes me wonder just how balanced some of these people are.

At least they didn't get away with their crime, but this guy might have, being a marine and all.

The possiblity that the Marine's conditioning for killing played a part in the crime and that it occurred quickly makes me cautious about putting it into the league of pure evil like the Shepard case.

its only newsworthy because he was usmc and there happens to be a war. i've known 10 guys who this could happen to and none were marines.

i rememeber growing up that vietnam vets were stereotyped as "ticking time bombs" and they were "no longer able to live by societal rules". we imagined each and every one as a rambo-ish outsider, distanced from the mainstream society he had left behind, waiting to explode and take us all with him...all very dramatic and wrong. sure many suffered from ptsd, but most suffered in silence, or went on with their lives without incident.

our neighborhood had several vietnam vets, including my dad. the kids in my age group assumed my dad was nuts, because they saw movies where vietnam vets were nuts. they assumed that about all of the dads who had been there. meanwhile, dad plugged along, all the dads did. no violence, no anti-govt ranting, no dropping out, no barricades or russian roullete. finally, no tranny killing. there may have been much personal angst and issues, but not a rambo in the bunch.

there is no info on who he was or what he did. for all we now he went through basic and sat at a desk for 25 years ordering snack food for vending machines.

I know some marines, and they're pretty well put together. But even they admit that the "kill! kill! kill!" mentality is definitely not good brainfood for a minority of recruits.

The guy should have already known he might discover something like this sooner or later, if he chooses to pick somebody up.
