Pentagon: Rumsfeld misspoke on Flight 93 crash

A comment Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld made during a Christmas Eve address to U.S. troops in Baghdad has sparked new conspiracy theories about the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

In the speech, Rumsfeld made a passing reference to United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed in Pennsylvania after passengers attempted to stop al Qaeda hijackers.

But in his remarks, Rumsfeld referred to the "the people who attacked the United States in New York, shot down the plane over Pennsylvania."

can no one in this administration ever get his/her facts straight

1. Makes ya wonder!

I wonder if this flight was intercepted and shot down, and they don't want us to know about it. I mean, they had hijackers on it, but maybe the administration (meaning Cheney) did get their shit together in time to intercept this one and blow it up, although why they would do it for this one, rather than for one near a big city.

If a plane gets shot down in the middle of a cornfield with no witnesses, did it get shot down, or did it 'crash' ??

6. why is the "conspiracy theories" stuff necessary?

why not just report the obvious story, the discrepancy between Rumsfeld's comment and the offical version of the events?

Aside from having no place in the article, the part about the conspiracy theories make no sense. The theories, which I'm sure Jamie Macintyre knows are not "new", involve the American military shooting down the plane, not the terrorists, as Rumsfeld's statement suggests.
