SEC Asks for Additional Information From FirstEnergy on Restatement of 2002 Earnings

AKRON, Ohio Sept. 12 —
The Securities and Exchange Commission has asked for additional information from FirstEnergy Corp. on the restatement of its 2002 earnings.

The electric utility holding company, whose operations have been a focus in the investigation of the massive Aug. 14 blackout, said it would comply with the request but declined to disclose details.

The company has said the earnings restatement was unrelated to the investigation of the utility's role into the blackout that left 50 million people from the Midwest to the Northeast without power.
