China Increases Tsunami Aid Sharply to $63 Million
Fri Dec 31, 2004 04:05 AM ET

BEIJING (Reuters) - Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Friday offered 500 million yuan ($60.42 million) in aid for tsunami-ravaged countries on top of $2.6 million already pledged.

China was a developing country, but was providing aid out of gratitude for relief it had received for its own disasters, Wen told diplomatic envoys from tsunami-hit South and Southeast Asian countries at Beijing's Zhongnanhai leadership compound.

At a little over $63 million, Beijing is now the third biggest monetary donor behind Britain and Sweden. The United States has made an initial pledge of $35 million.

"The Chinese people are very concerned about the sudden disaster and we have deepest sympathy for the people affected," the premier said.

12. Even one of the lap dogs is making Bush look small
Little Johnny Howard's mean government have committed to donate $35m (US$27.3m) and Australia's population is only 20mil (but then Indonesia is a close neighbour.)

4. Waiting To See Two Things
#1: Any political cartoon showing Li'l Dubbie and his handlers gettin' their signals crossed and sending "aid" in the form of liberation--and carpet-bombing the survivors.

BUSH: "Ah can't beleev Ah hadda cut mah vacation short AGAIN! First fer that dumfuck Tillman gettin' himself kilt, and now THIS! Doesn't anyone care about ME? Dammit, it's hard werk!"

#2: The reaction of Freeptards to the announcement that BushCo, "concerned" about the skyrocketing deficit, will be making cuts to...

(drumroll please)

...the military.

FREEPTARD: "Thet damn Clinton! Thet damn Clinton! ...Wait, did he say BUSH wuz makin' cuts to...to the military? Oh my Gawd, Ah hopes he means cuts to the benefits of those damn useless vet'rans--not Star Wars!!"

6. China proves smarter, faster
and more economically solvent. This may be the miscalculation that challenges Bush's Christ image in the minds of his loyal base.

14. I do find it embarrassing though.
You are right, it is wonderful, and Eggelund knows he will go down in history for his inadvertent remark.

However, I'm so glad they haven't yet thought of the cheaper solution of just buying a 99 cent ruler and measuring each of their penises.

13. Bush wants another $80 billion for Iraq and its not in loans.
As a U.S. tax payer, I'd rather GIVE $80 billion to tsanami victims than send it to Iraq where it will be wasted on building military bases, killing people, and taking their oil.

Interesting turn of events. The "stingy" remark/ admonishment is sure paying off it seems.
